Just because the crowd all agrees, they may not be right, they can even be blind to something that is right before their eyes.

from the Hans Christian Anderson tale. The child spoke the obvious truth (that the Emperor was naked) but all the adults went along with the Emperor's belief that he was wearing some fine, magnificent robes. Moral is that the truth was being ignored because popular society bent to the pressures of the powers that be. Similar to the idiom of "the elephant in the middle of the room that no one was talking about"

Easy, that anyone will "follow" anyone else's lead and parrot what they say, just to sound "cool." As long as people listen to them, they'll keep babbling on, saying stupid sh1t that means nothing, just because they are popular and everyone else "oohs and aah's."
Think of the story in question, the Emperor is walking down the street Naked but everyone is saying what a fine pair of clothes he has on, except the honest little boy who doesn't know to "white lie."
That right there should it explain it all.

The state of the Union Address for example:
The economy is sound. (statement from President)
So everyone believes it except for the child who exclaims,"Why couldn't you buy me that toy in Toys R Us for my birthday because you said money was tight"..
It takes a child to point out the obvious without nodding "Yes Master",like the bobble heads that they sell in stores.
The lesson is:
Think for yourself ,not to believe everything you read in the newspapers,or hear on the radio.
Somewhere in the last 25 years ,American Ingenuity got lost somewhere.
Americans inventions were coming out every day years ago, electricity in homes, streetlights, telephones, home computers, satellite radios, but what has this country done lately except follow the leader into darkness and eventual poverty as this country is aging and health care for the elderly is at risk.
It will take a child to ask ,"Why can't grandma afford her pills and groceries also on her SSI check ? ".

There are several lessons.
One is that people in power should surround themselves with people who will tell them the truth, not just what they want to hear.
Another point is that you should not be afraid to tell your leaders when they are screwing up. Otherwise, they can make themselves and their people look really bad.
But the most important lesson is that naked people may be funny, but naked RICH people are HILARIOUS!

the lesson is to not surround yourself with people afraid to speak their mind...and to seek wise counsel. the emperor was surrounded by fools afraid to say something they thought he wouldn't like.
