If your cramps are that severe you might want to see a gynecologist to determine the exact cause so that it can be treated specifically.
When you take a pain reliever, try drinking a strong cup of coffee with it. Caffeine boosts the pain relieving power of many drugs.

I used to have really bad cramps durign my period too. I would not be able to get out of bed. Birth control is the only way to get rid of these cramps. I started the pill about a year ago, and they don't bother me at all anymore. Sometimes, I can feel a cramp for a minute or two before I start, but its not bad and goes away quickly. Yaz (24 day pack) helps alot, not just with cramps, but moodiness and bloating also.

Try being a little more active. I know it hurts like the bejesus but the activity will increase the blood flow and the cramps will eventually subside. The cramps are caused by blood clots that usually form during the menstrual cycle so the activity will push the clots out and stay away from tampons. They only help to block the flow and cause the clots to become more immobile. Hang in there, hopefully the problem will get better in time. If not seek out another doctors opinion and help.

For me, the key is to take the meds BEFORE the cramps start. Once they get a hold, it's hard to get rid of them using ANYTHING. My doctor gave me the best advice several years ago...start taking ibuprofen (3 at a time) as soon as you get you period, even if you don't have cramps yet. It's much easier to stave them off than it is to get rid of them once you have them.
Before I learned that trick, the only thing that would give me a little relief was a hot (but not TOO hot) bath.

You can try progesterone cream. You can buy it at any health store. Or another option is to take birth control pills. Last option is to start taking high doses of Motrin the week before your period starts. Apparently, this counteracts the clotting process and thins the blood. I just discussed this very thing with my doctor and these were her suggestions.

i used to have the worst cramps until i started birth control. they were so bad that nothing would ease the pain. i even tried darvocet and i still hurt. talk to your doctor and explain the severity of your cramps. maybe the doc will start you on birth control pills. it really did make a huge difference for me. i still get some minor cramps, but usually 1 midol will knock them out.

For some people sex helps. Heating pads and aleve worked best for me. Nothing will get rid of them, unless you don't have a period.

Mine were so bad I had to go to an OB/GYN. He put me on birth control so I only have it three times a year. He wants to do an internal exam to see if there's a real problem inside. Really though, it's the only way to stop the cramps.

Those are usually effective ways to reduce the discomfort from PMS.... One idea is to start medicating a week before your period.... Another is to try SSRI meds... The Dr can prescribe those... One med is prozac, really can work wonders... Another thing that can help is accupuncture and/or accupressure. The week before your period is to start go and get aligned or whatever they call it... It helps tremendously.... Also, birth control if you want can help it also.... I used to get bad cramps etc.... I now use Prozac the week before my period... NO mood swings, little to no cramps, little water gain.... Really great stuff... Good luck....

there is no cure. if it were i would sell it to myself. i heard that a natural remedy is making a tea of fresh ginger. i have also found that a hot shower along with the tylenol subsides it a little. my dad use to give me alkaseltzer when i was a teen and surprising enough it helped some.
