A new A/C evaporator core (Spectra Premium brand) costs $68.89. Here is a photo of it: http://www.rockauto.com/ref/SPI/Detail2.html?http://prod.spectra-ssl.com/data/product_pictures/evaporator/1054188.jpg

Unfortunately, a lot of labor is involved to replace the evaporator core on the Jeep Cherokee. The steering column and the instrument panel must be removed. Of course the R-134a refrigerant must be sucked out and replaced too. I would guess at least 5 hours of labor at what ever rate your local mechanic charges. So $69 for the part, $20 for other needed parts and topping off the refrigerant, plus $250 to $500 for labor.

You better have a black American Express Card for this one LOL. I did an evaporator core on one of this and believe me It was very hard. You will need about $1000.00 for labor alone plus parts and dont forget they will charge you to evacuate and recharge your A/C system since both the heater core and evaporator core are inside the same box behinde the dash. You might as well have them look at that also if you dont have any freon cause they leak as well. And please you are already paying top dollar for this especially if you have any funny smells coming out the vents. Have them pull all the leaves out where the evaporator is at. Ther will be a lot of it and wet ones too.

Yes, evaporators cost around 100 bucks. It's unusual that you will need to replace it. Are you sure it is bad? I mean, it's possible, the 80's years Ford trucks had problems with them and they cost close to 200. Just be sure. Good luck.

Out here the price is about 100.00 an hour somewhere around 1.000.00 to 1.400.00 plus parts.
You are talking big money.
