start with headers and the intake, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator gives you power too.

I like Geo's answer, let the motor breathe, plus there's no tearing into the engine, also put on dual exhaust and eliminate the breather silencer. It's a box looking thing between the breather and the intake plentum. It's a silencer, to quiet the growl from the intake when you open the engine up. Take a piece of flex tubing and run it from the breather box to the intake and throw that silencer in the garage somewhere. Good luck.

I would start first check compression of engine to make sure that you have a good foundation to work with, then start with a good set of free flowing heads, you can get stock heads mildly ported or go with a good set of alum.heads then beef up the cam a little (not to radical),a good free flowing intake manifold ,650CFM Barry Grant speed demon carb ,Quality set of ceramic coated hedders,MSD 6 series ignition box ,probillet distributor,Do away with the cat. convertors go with a miniumn of 2 1/2 inch pipe (true duals)with flowmasters delta force race mufflers..You should be very happy with the results....

cheapest bang for buck is to add nitrous oxide injection. a 50 hp shot shouldn't hurt your engine or tranny too much.
