I remember when I was a kid, I'd lay back in the grass and look to the sky and see stars everywhere, millions of them. I look up now and I'm lucky if I see half a dozen stars. Where did they go? Why isn't the sky loaded with stars that light up the night anymore? Does anybody know?

it is because of light pollution. since the're are so many city lights nodays, the light makes it difficult to see the stars. even in residential areas, light from houses make it difficult to see stars. stars are always their but you just can't see them...they are there during the day but becuz of the sun it is to bright, so it is more light pollution. in order to see all those stars you once saw, you have to have it be compleatley dark, not even street lights. smallest lights can cause light pollution. they do not dissapear. you just can't see them becuz of this light pollution.

did you move? if so you could have moved somewere were there are more lights, so just try to find the darkest open area possible and try looking then.

If your not already in the country try going there and finding a dark area and looking. Like if i go behind our barn and look you can see a strip of stars that are part of the milky way and you can pick it out easily its very neat. Oh and if your realy good with stars and stuff you can pick out a few planets, mars is the easiest it looks like a normal star but has a slight red tint

Light polution.

Drive out into the country, about 50 miles from the nearest large town, and you will see the stars again.

The smog and lights!
We go out to my Mother's farm at night (way out in East Texas) and can still see most of the stars!
It is sad but it is happening!

1. There is more light around you now than there was then; and/or,
2. You are getting old and your eyesight isn't what it used to be.
