some dumb *** said to wear ankle weights--- NO== lets think, if you had weights, wearing and banging on your ankles. do you think that would feel good?>?????
try Strength shoes.
or these exercises. but you have to them... its hard, and takes about 3 to 4 monts, 3 times a week.
do 4 to 5 sets. rest 30 seconds between sets.
jump rope for one minute.
run 75 yards,
power slides 75 yards, left and right
run backwards 75 yards.
power skips 75 yards.
jump in place, knees high as possible. 15 secs
hop as far as possible, 50 yards.
jump on and down on a bleacher 10 times.
or jump about a foot up, then down.
i was dunking after 3 months, at 5 ft 10 inches.

Don't waste your time or money on ankle weights... unless you see a doctor first... working out with weights in that way can put extra pressure on your joints... that might not be good.

It's not really complicated at all...You should Jump rope, and run (sprints and distances).

Our (basketball) coach used to have us stand under the basket, and jump straight up 25 reps at a time...then do some other things..then go back to the jumping. By doing this under a basket, you can guage your progress (by seeing how close you are getting to the rim). It's also a great way to build stamina.

Best of luck to you!

i saw a thing about it on TV. The guy was saying that in order to be able to jump up so high, you first had to be able to jump from that height to the ground ... strengthen the bones or some such. He claimed the basketball pro training all started with guys jumping off of blocks, progressively higher. I have no idea if that's true but it makes good medical sense. Get or make some blocks, step up, jump down, jump up, step down, jump up jump down ... then get some bigger blocks.

Wear a weight vest and play ball that way. When you take the vest off, you'll play better.
