What can we as a society do to make the internet a more polite place?

Yes, there seems to be a high level or nastiness on the internet.
I'm guessing it's because people can speak anonymously and hide behind their computer screens in the privacy of their own homes. It allows quite a bit of freedom. When you post a message on the internet as for example right here on yahoo answers, you are dealing with all kinds of people from all over the world.
I really think there is nothing that can be done about the nastiness at all. Just have to depend on the good morals of the people.'

Aside from going only to moderated sites where the etiquette police are ready to whack you up the side of your head for inapproriate language, there is nothing you can or should do.
Politeness is over rated. Give me an honest opinion over polite drivel anyday in real life or on the internet.
I'm not saying you can't be polite without being dishonest but consider the alternative...an anemic internet is too horrible to contemplate.

How can u make the internet a polite place. People used the internet to make money. They put porn pop-up and match-up. If you want a polite place then install PARENTAl FILTER. Those people liked DELL or HP should have free software of PARENTAL FILTER so our children would not have nasty mind.

Yes. Anonymity leads to jerks. Having this many people all in one place means we'll NEVER have a polite Inter-space, unfortunately.

The internet is a nasty and dangerous place. There are no rules or regulations, which makes it a breeding ground for undesirable things.

I agree that people are nasty but they are on and off the net. You can't really do anything because we have freedom of speech it is a person's right to be an a hole.

you should have to be at least 18 to be able to get on-line, there are so many inconsiderant people here......
