You do not give much detail about where or how the gasket is coming off. I would guess it is tearing apart at the bottom of the fresh food door or the top corner of the door on the open side (not the hinge side). You may be having a problem at the lower corner on the hinge side with the corner pulling away and distorting. These are the most common places where most people have trouble and the can be prevented from happening with a little care.

The bottom tearing is caused when someone spills something and they close the door to go get something to wipe the spill up. Usually they do a great job of cleaning the mess up but forget to wipe off the gasket. When the door is closed whatever was spilled is still on the gasket and it dries and glues fast to the refrigerator. When the door is opened the gasket is pulled and after this happens depending on how sticky the gasket has become the magnet section tears away from the gasket or the covering of the magnet rips and exposes the magnet at spots across the bottom.

The upper open corner gets wear and tear from people placing their hand on the gasket while bending over to look inside or get something out.

The lower corner on the hinge side drags on the cabinet when the door is opened and closed and may have something sticky on it so it pulls the corner away. You can prevent this from happening by keeping the gasket clean and applying a light coat of petroleum jelly(Vaseline etc.) on just the hinge side and only on the flat magnet strip that contacts the cabinet.

The cost of the gasket is between $35 and $85 not the $200 that some expert has mentioned.

Amana Refrigerator Door Gasket

That's either an old refrigerator whose gasket is just worn out, or poor workmanship in the first place.
A door gasket that's messed up is going to let cold air leak out and make the fridge worked harder to keep the food cold. In other words, whatever it costs to replace it is bound to be cheaper than all that wasted electricity!

Cause is usualy old age (the rubber dries out/cracks etc) The last time I priced a door gasket it was around $200(parts only) but that was 10 years ago.
