I saw that on the news and I was completely appalled... especially when one of the producers (a white male) claimed that it would only be done to attract more audience members. I feel as if this is simply ridiculous. God created us all to be different colors, shapes, and sizes. If everything was just peachy-keen then maybe this wouldn't be such a sensitive issue. However, because people of the white race have so long manipulated, abused, tortured, and oppress people of other races (especially the Black race), for whites to create a race-based competition is completely unfair. There is already the idea that the show will be hoaxed and the white team will be at a greater advantage because it is their people who are directing the show.
Also, whichever race wins, there will be prejudice and racism that results. For instance, if the whites win, they will use that to claim that they are a superior race and others will accuse them of cheating. If the Blacks or Hispanics win, others claim that they won because they are "naturally athletic" and therefore were at an advantage.
Either way, this racist and it shouldn't be done. The mere thought of having an race-based competition in America where race is soooo important sickens me.

I think this is a very bad idea. The producers of Survivor "say" they want to have ethnic diversity. For the record, I think ethnic diversity would have been a good thing. However, I think dividing the races into teams for sport and entertainment is exploitative and racist. Did the producers of Survivor and CBS forget that the 1992 Los Angeles riots weren't so long ago? Are ratings worth so much to them that they'd risk the damage to our country's already fragile race relations?

If race relations suffer as a result of this "social experiment," who is going to pay? Survivor? CBS? Ha! They will be laughing all the way to the bank.

I, for one, will not be watching.

It's completely pointless because it's not at all scientific. Like the black folks are going to win if it's a foot race, but will lose if it's a swimming contest? The people they choose for each race will just go to show that everyone is different, not fit into stereotypes. And whoever wins will be due to skill, luck, and interpersonal relationships, not race.

it's kinda wierd.

here you have the "model minority" argument, where you are trying to show the best and worst of any ethnic group.

but on the other hand, this is america, where people identify themselves primarily by race and ethnicity. People are interested seeing in how other cultures "behave." and they can observe this social experiment in the safety of their own home on TV instead of venturing out scared into some ghetto to see firsthand the "natives".

I don't think it is any worse than having the Smiths vs the O'connors vs the Wangs. Or the Canadians vs the Kenyans vs the Irish.

i think it is doing exactly what it is supposed to do. get everybody talking about it and bring up the ratings on a pretty silly show to begin with.

I think it will be fun to watch...why stress the issue.

It will show how alike and how different we all are. (Most of us are all human, right?)

Stop being so uptight about racial issues..different does not equal better or worst only different.
