"Fractal compression is a lossy compression method used to compress images using fractals. The method is best suited for photographs of natural scenes (trees, mountains, ferns, clouds). They make really cool screensavers and can be used to sell lots of software! You don't think that making money is practical...?

well mapping in satellite details of course.

i suspect that the extra dimensions offered in string theory are best fleshed out with fractal geometries.

they are 'order of magnitude' geometries, like the small dimensions string theory provides for.,
