Service and Repair
Notes

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove steering wheel.
3. Remove instrument panel trim cover.
4. Remove lock plate.
5. Remove turn signal lever screw and lever.
6. Remove hazard warning knob.
7. Remove turn signal switch attaching screws.
8. Disconnect electrical connector from turn signal switch.
9. Remove wire protector.
10. Position turn signal and shifter housing in the low position. Remove harness cover by pulling toward the lower end of the column. Ensure not to damage the wires on tilt column models.
11. Remove turn signal switch.
12. Reverse procedure to install.

previous answer works for me. IF you don't have a drivers air bag. I seem to remember my 90 chev did. If so don't mess with it. cheaper [about $250] to pay the dealer than to explode the bag and have to replace at $1500. Suposedly you can pull the airbag fuse and it won't go off but .....
