Yes to both!!! I am in Texas and in a lake area with lots and lots of poisonous snakes. I have yet to have a problem. It also works well with racoons. You have to set them around the perimeter of the area you want to protect about 2-4 inches apart, pushed down into the dirt about 1 inch. BE WARNED - they are poisonous to small children and pets if they eat them.

I don't know about snakes, but my mother laid moth balls down and drove away a skunk that was trying to set up home under her porch..once gone, she filled in his burrows....but he didn't like the moth balls at all.

Hi!
I think they might! We had a woodchuck problem, (my fault I fed him, her actually and she had twins under my house in the spring), my husband said... two would become two more, then 8, etc. So I asked my vet how to discourage them without hurting them. He suggested mothballs poured down their backdoor before blocking it off securely, then in a week, pour more in their front door, then in a week block their front door off loosely, wait a few days to see if they had to dig out, then block it off permanently. It worked! They moved two houses down the block. I still let them eat corn at my birdfeeders, tho. p.s. but be careful, as they are harmful to kids and cats, too I think. In fact, I think a cat or dog, spayed and neutered! :-) of course, would work even better for you and be part of the family. I once had a cat who brought a snake in the kitchen for me, and a dog who "chased" the striped kitty right out of the yard. He smelled for a year!

We were told by dozens of people when we moved here to get a goat, and cut our azaela's. Well we did both and have not had a problem yet, though our neighbor has lost a dog to a rattler

I have a groundhog that thinks so...not only will moth balls do the job.. but it's safe...it's better than pesticides...

Yes they do but the hard part is holding their little legs apart so the snakes can smell them.
