The Gitmo captives have all been denied due process. They should be freed, compensated, and repatriated immediately. Where there's no due process, there's no democracy. Period. For all the "patriots" who think otherwise, welcome to fascism.

again.. couldn't agree more. This display I think more than anything else has been the show piece of the corporate Junta. It has been the warning and the reckoning all in one.. "Fu@k with us and we'll kick your door down and take you somewhere you don't want to be" Really a marvel of overt psychological warfare for the whole planet.. with America only answering to herself.. what's to say it can;t be you or me or anyone else for that matter? Fear .. the tool of the badmen.

I always love questions that:

1. Ask a question
2. Answer it
3. Claim that anyone that disagrees with given answer is wrong

Why don't you save us all the trouble and just smack yourself in the face?

I don't agree with the Gitmo detainment either, but it's like Iraq: we did this stupid, stupid thing and now we can't just walk away.

What do you think would happen if we gave 450 people that NOW have every reason to hate us money, and then sent them home? Yeah, a lot of that money and those people would go back into terrorism. So now we can't keep 'em but we can't let 'em go. Great job W.

You make it sound like these people were damaged by a blender and are due compensation as part of a class-action lawsuit. Foreign policy and war don't operate that way, the rules are made and broken as convenient.

As for democracy, the vast majority of these people are not American citizens and their home nations aren't democracies either...

I'm a Classic Liberal and even I think we could give the military the responsibility of carrying out punishment and even execution. because if they are not enemy combatants, they are spies or sabateurs, which even in the Geneva Convention are not protected. If they are found guilty by a court including some civilian judges as well as oversight by our federal court system, I don't care if you take them out back and shoot them within the hour. But, lets make it clear to everyone that the process is fair. It is very possibly that not all are guilty and/or some are guilty of lesser crimes. No Kangaroo court. the military evidence will be allowed to be much looser than the system we are used to, but it must be because of the nature of war...the military will be given a great deal of leaway regarding evidence, because crime scenes will not be able to be processed. It really surprises me that the Administration is dragging its heels in regard to other processes when they hold all the cards with evidence and the fact that terrorists who are involved with purposefully killing civilians are not protected under the convention

They are combatants, not criminals. There is no "due process" for POW's. You hold them in confinement until the end of hostilities. As far as I know the hostilities are still going on.

As far as compensation, I think your right, that is right after the compensate the families for the people they murdered and got them where they are.. How much is proper compensation for a life?

America didn't start this, but we will finish it. If it were up to me, when they do get to leave, the marines will give them each their own inner tube and let them swim back. They are scumbags and I have to wonder what kind of person would make excuses for them and want "compensation".

I say release them all, and let them go live with you.

They were captured in battle and they are not Americans. What U.S. statute did they break? What U.S. district has jurisdiction? That is why Bush has been trying to get military tribunals, but idiots like you have stopped that from happening. It's not Rummy's fault the tools have not been given to him to do anything with them. Is he supposed to just set them free and let them shoot at U.S. soldiers some more, or continue planning how they are going to kill you.

You can't put POWs on trial so why should you put these guys on trial? When the war is over, they can go home.
