Be very careful.....a lot of places won't acknowledge a degree from an on-line school. There's nothing like going to a real school where you interact with other people and a great deal of what you do in the world after you get out of school will involve interacting with others, unless you're going to be in a cave someplace. Employers want to know what kind of people skills you have and whether you work well with others - experiences you will only get at a real school. While I'm sure there are some, I don't know of one college or university for example, that will hire anyone as a faculty member who has an on-line graduate degree. A legitimate school will be an accreditated school and will have it in their literature that they are accredited. And would you want to go to a doctor who had a degree in brain surgery that he earned on-line and had never had to do a residency? Go to a real school - then you know what you're getting - a real education.

Might I suggest you be extremely cautious with your research. I enrolled and was accepted into a Masters Program for an online university. The school was nationally accredited, however they are NOT recognized by my state as a higher school of learning. Basically, any employer in my state would not give credit to the Masters. Good Luck!!

Here in the south it is known as SACS southern area of colleges and schools. I believe there are 4 major parts to the accreditation institutions. Anyway, sacs is the accreditation place for the USA in the south that makes sure all schools and colleges are up to par and the classes and credits are recognized. You can go to their website and find the agency for your area.
You can also contact your local county board of education and tell them.
Finally, find out if the school is in the pell grant program, if they are, then they are accredited (they have to be its a government program that will not give money to a school that is not accredited) if they aren't ask them if they will be and when. If they aren't then dont attend.

Basically you need to look for a school that is regionally accredited.

Here is a link to a page that lists all the different accreditation agencies by region. You should be able to search the websites to see if they are accredited, are on probation, have had their accreditation revoked, etc......

Depending on what major you you wish to accomplish, you need to find out what their accrediting body is. Once you do that it should be easy to find out if the on-line university is accredited. Many reputable universities offer on-line courses, but usually only universities with an actual campus are accredited.

be very careefull with an onliineschool my sister just got her associates degree online with univeristy of phoenix and the wanted to do another 2 years for her masters a GA tech where she was accepted and they wouldnt take any of her hard earned credits, so to anyother college that is not online your credits look like ****! Even if the school says they are acredited. Like a regular college would have English 101 online schools have things like Critical thinking as their english and to a real college that is not legit~! So be careful she got screwed and so will you! Ga Tech want to treat all her credits as electorial credits! Good luck and think hard about onlline schools!

Call a company you would like to work for and ask them if they believe it's an accredited university.
