It really depends on the policy of the company where you work. For example, if they require notice ahead of time and you don't give it, it's possible.

If it's an emergency and you haven't had time to give notice, you might not have a problem.

It might be a good idea to consult a lawyer.

You can be fired for anything if you work in an "at will" state. As for medical appointments, if they are related to a disability of which the employer is aware, reasonable accommodation is required by the ADA.

Most companies have policies that require advance notice and use of any sick or vacation benefits you have. You need to provide more information for a more accurate answer

I assume the question implies that you are taking time off from work to do so.

The answer is "kind of". You need to notify your employer any time you would usually be at work but need to be elsewhere. Employers have different ways of dealing with this, e.g. sick days etc. If you're talking about a yearly physical, most employers won't care all that much. But if this question even comes up, it looks like you're pretty sick.

If you frequently schedule medical appointments, it is entirely possible that you will exhaust your allowance for absences from work. Tread carefully.

If your appointments are frequent to the point of causing problems in this way you should probably look into some kind of medical leave.

The law that covers you is FMLA, but you have to qualify for it.

Work for an employer with 50 or more employee
Been employed for one year
Worked at least 1250 hours in the last year.

If you do not qualify for FMLA, then you are out of luck.

When I was pregnant with my second child, my appointments were in the morning and I came in with the excuse and arrived at work in a time frame previously agreed on between my supervisor and I...no problems...

It all depends on how your job works. I know some jobs only allow you to miss so many days a year, no matter what the situation. And yes, they can fire you for that.

Depends on your place of work.If you are going to several appts. for the same condition, try filing for FMLA. There's a little bit of paper work, but it will protect you.Best Wishes!♥

best bet talk to your HR rep. if the company is large enough and you have enough time in then family leave act may help, if not then if the reason is job related then you have certain rights if its not then after sick days you move to un excused absenteeism

Even if you can't, they'll find some other excuse if they want to fire you over it. Start your own business, then the problem's solved.
