In World War II there were single days we lost more American soldiers.
To answer your question properly I need to qualify my answer. First, we are winning militarily. We have control over the country but have major problems with the insurgency, which was not predicted and not prepared for.
Managing the insurgency is possible, but it isn't easy. In order to win the war we will need the Iraqis to believe they can keep themselves secure from harm. We will need Americans to believe we are doing the right thing the best way we can. This enemy cannot beat us militarily. That is an absolute undeniable fact.
We can lose, however, if we allow naysayers, the media and the Islamofascist sympathizers to convince us that we cannot win. If you think what we have now is bad, that would be much worse.
Unlike Vietnam where the people had a certain amount of sense, these people are absolutely fanatically nuts and we will live with the consequences of failure for a long time.
If we succeed Iraq could provide a model for other Islamic democracies and could bring peace and security to a part of the world that has never had it before.

Yes, I think people get impatient because it is taking longer than they want it to. There is progress. You can't break down a country and rebuild it in one day. I think it would be a great dishonor to our fallen and injured soldiers to pull out of Iraq before the job is finished.

Do you realize that in July of 1863 at Gettysburg 50,000 people died in one day? just because the Media chooses not to report anything positive about what's going on over there does not mean that we are losing. Talk to the soldiers that have been over there and want to go back and finish the job. The Media will never report anything like that. Positive things happening over there are not part of their agenda. Fighting them over there is better than fighting them here in our country.

No... but we are like a wet blanket keeping the violence from getting even worse. Imagine the level of sectarian violence if we left!
