I am an intellectual type of person, a home body, single, no kids, love animals, sort of lonely, i am not a materialistic person. I have a very boring life, I value milestones and I see 40 as a milestone number. My hobbies are mostly caring for my pets and surfing the net. I am a morning person who likes to stay up late at night. I value peace and tranquility, plants . Thanks for your suggestions.

make a list of the 40 things that you want to do in life before you meet the Grim Reaper. Figure out which one you can do/afford/have time for and plan it for your birthday. Dothings which can enable you to do the other 39 things (ie., start a savings account to finance it)

Go skydiving (in Florida b/c it is January :) Go on a cruise. Travel to the Amazon or Serengeti and enjoy nature, or even find a nice park closer to home. Purchase a piece of land and plant trees, create a park for animals. Go to an animal shelter and get a new pet. Spend the day at a zoo or animal park, even Busch Gardens or Sea World. You can be a keeper for a day there. You could also arrange to do something special like swim with dolphins or ride an elephant. Take a class just for fun-painting, piano lessons, gardening, etc. You could build a greenhouse and fill it with 40 new plants to commemorate the day. Have fun, regardless! :)

Have a "Ladies of the Evening" party at a restaurant....I have had these and they are a blast. Go to Walmart and purchase two gooseneck lamps, a red bath mat, and a white sheet which you put lettering on a diagonal that says "Ladies of the Evening"...like at the Oscars and Emmy awards. Purchase two drawing manikins (plain people with bending joints...cost $6 each). Paint them a gold metallic color. Find a fancy hat (any color...but black is preferable and with a net for over the eyes), wear a formal and get a fur stole or coat at an antique center, internet or a relative. Be sure to bring a camera with lots of film. We pass out the "oscars" (Manikins) for crazy things...Then at the next party, whoever received one has to come up with another reason for passing it on to someone else. We take the funniest pictures on the red carpet (the lamps are spotlights) We have also passed out Oscar Myer weiners to our Oscar winners.....and once gave out a huge bottle of bubbles to the person with the biggest "bubbles" (aka: boobs) It went to an 80 year old lady with double d's...hahahahaha. Anyway. It is sooo much fun, People in restaurants get a kick out of us. We just love to dress up and have fun together. Some of the outfits have been amazing. One time we said to dress like rock-stars. Three girls from an insurance chose Madonna at three stages of her life....too funny! Have a happy memorable party...you will throughly enjoy this one. Also, our group made the front page of the Peoria Journal Star of Peoria, IL local and area news and now there are other groups in the area. There is no age requirement or special colors...just hats, formal attire and a fur, if possible. When we are together there is no difference in our ages....

i think if you did anything at all it would be special. try doing something totally not you. were you allways this way? if youve got friends and family, try having a surprise birthday party for yourself. it will surprise them. get drunk, throw an egg at a car, get laid, turn your stereo up to 3, sleep till noon the next day. whatever you do, dont even look at your computer. if you cant handle any of that and want to be by yourself, get a bottle of good wine, make candles your only light, and sit back and reflect on all the people youve known that has made an impact on you from childhood till present. there will be a little pain involved, but im sure there will be smiles too. happy birthday early, have a good one.

Do something different. You say you value peace and tranquillity but have you ever tried letting your hair down for a change. Party it up a bit. Maybe a dance with a couple of girlfriends at a country bar or something. You may have fun and meat new friends. If not, you can add it to you list of "not for me's"
P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY FOR NEXT YEAR

Considering what you've told us about yourself, why not treat yourself to a vacation? Go off on some sort of retreat. I'd suggest the mountains, but that probably wouldn't be a really good idea in January (the snow and stuff), although you'd get a discount. You could try maybe a visit to the beach--it'd be pretty quiet in the winter.
Oh, and happy b-day early!

I'm a teacher, and from interacting with and teaching at-risk youths and cultivating myself in Falun Gong at the same time, I'm finding that giving is a rewarding feeling. Knowing that I can make a difference in someone else's life and improving myself through the interaction is a precious gift that I have received. Perhaps when we change our worldviews, we will find a whole world of special things that we can do. This is just my two cents.

A Date on your birthday will be good. plus you will get a birthday gift.

I would say do something you have never done in your live. How about something extreme and memorable. Like sky diving or paragliding ? Or a less on Kayaking ?

January is kind of cold, go to some place warmer.

Take a cruise ?

I jumped from an airplane solo. I took a racing school course and drove a race car sole at 180 mph. I bought a new Corvette. But the best thing was the home cooked meal my wife and three kids made for me.
