I am a RN nursing student and will graduate with honors. I don't know anyone that's a nurse. What is an acceptable amount of pay for a new graduate nurse? I know it will vary based on location so just gimme your knowledge. Thanks for the information.

Look for a minimum of $20 bucks an hour in Florida. Up north, expect more.
My wife is an RN, and relayed that message to you. She has a job offer for considerably more up north, I hate the cold weather though.

She says make sure you study hard for the NECLEX exam and good luck!

This all depends how you look at it. When I was a new grad RN, I really didn't mind what I got paid. Mainly because I had the mentality of that I'm here to pay my dues. Unless it's significantly unreasonable, then you should play hardball. If they are going to pay less than twenty then go somewhere else.

Now, when you complete your one year, start looking around. Seriously, don't ever feel bad about loyalties. You're most likely to get a better offer, after a year, from a different facility.

Make sure you're secured in your sign-on bonus. Make sure you get this in writing when you're hired. Not kidding. I've seen new grads get scre**d over this.

Some may argue about my thinking, but you're in a way in no position to negotiate so harshly. Remember, nursing is a small community. You may run into someone years down the road. Be humble and don't complain....why? Because you can always quit, nicely, and go to another place (for better pay).

hi here is ohio in nursing homes they make 17 an hour + depending on experience and of course where in ohio like higher north the higher pay.
im not shur about like e.r. or something but id imagine that would pay very high.
becareful you dont get sick and always wash your hands, and since you are a RN please listen what people tell you, its so hard for the nurses to listen to us stna's they act like were dumb its not rite.,,,

my advice is listen to people and give everyone a chance, and i hope you succeed in your career!

good luck!

Check the nursing journals RN and Nursing 2006---I believe they run annual salary polls by region, specialty, experience, and other factors. Both should be in your school library.

Good luck, and welcome aboard!
