Whoa pardner!.... Let's back up a moment. First of all, it has nothing to do with ability. Those African Americans who wish to pronounce words according the the standard dictionary pronunciations are perfectly capable. And if you're asking this question, might as well ask why so many Americans in general are so lazy in their pronunciations.
My own children are always asking me why I'm such a stickler for pronunciation and grammar. I tell them that if you can do it properly, you can speak to anyone. Street language is easy to pick up. It's speaking properly that takes real practice. We may not like it, but people make judgments based on how you express yourself. If you want the top jobs and top opportunities, you prepare and you learn to speak well. You can be the top student in the class, but if your language skills make you sound ignorant then that is how you will be seen.. or heard by people.

Well some pronounce differently apparently because of the way the body parts that control our speech are different. For example tongue size, teeth size, lip size, mouth size, vocal chords...these are all factors that determine how we talk, and it just means that it's the fault of genetics. The same reason why it would be very difficult for many white people to learn and pronounce a native African language correctly.

Well im sure you've heard of slang before but, I would think because alot of us dont read as much as we should. I think if you read books on a regular basis then your vocabulary will improve. I read all the time and i dont have a problem pronouncing or spelling words.
