I'm from New York, and they don't understand my accent. Sometimes they make fun of my accent, but I could say the same thing on their country accent. They claim they don't have an accent (whatever).

I lived in Houston for three years, originally from Baltimore. Houstonians could understand me for the most part. But New Yorkers have a different accent than Baltimorons :-D

I don't know why they don't understand you, except to say that they may just be unused to hearing someone speak the way you do.

They're Texan, man. Whole different set of priorities and values down there. I'm not saying this is bad, I'm just saying it's the way it is. At least it was my experience.

Have you seen the Ski Texas shirts in any shops yet? That'll be something for you to look forward to.

People who haven't traveled much always seem to think that they have no accent. I don't know how many times I have been told, "They say that everyone south (or north or east or west) of _____(substitute name of next town or the one beyond that) has an accent." If you try to tell the locals that they have one too, they just look at you like you are crazy.

Jonathan L, you are a mean person for saying that about black people needing to die. I'm from Mississippi, and i like to hear accents from different people. especially the bronx, new york. even though i call them yankees, i still like them. I am a civil war re-enactor so i travel alot and get to hear alot of accents. Don't let this bother you.and keep that yankee accent no matter what these rebels say. i love the south but people are wrong for making fun of you. you don't need to change, they need to accept people for who they are.

Well if your from New York, it is said that there is a fast paced lifestyle there. Texas is known to have a slow lifestyle. They do talk slower overall if compared to a New Yorker. That is why chopped and screwed music comes from Texas, sloooowwwww.

Don't feel bad, just get used to thier accent. You won't change their accent, so change yours, or get talking both types

Everyone's got an accent from where they were raised at.

We all just gotta adjust to it.

For example... Us Texans tend to say "ya'll" alot.

And Californians tend to say "hella" alot.

Etc.

P.S.
I'm from Houston.
I'm in Houston right now!
Tee hee.

You live in their world now. You are the one who's strange, not them.

Just like they would be strange in NY.
