1. Military-Industrial Complex of which Dick Cheney and George Bush are a part and stand to gain. War is big money for big business who supply the military. Trillions of dollars.

2. To control the oil fields for US use by creating puppet democracies in the middle east.

3. To support Israel, not out of love for them, but because the Bible says that Jesus will only return if there's an Israeli state in the Middle East. Fundamentalist Christian conspiracy bullshit that Bush is one member of.

I have read almost 10 answers and not one involved facts. I watched the President's address to us all before we went in. The major justification was as follows:

We defeated Saddam in the Gulf War.

We dicatated the terms of the peace.

Part of that was to allow weapon inspectors into the country to see if he had weapons that could kill a lot of people

He refused to comply

The UN passed 19 resolutions that the UN refused to enforce.

SInce the UN would not do anything we decided to. After 9-11, we cannot afford someone like Saddam to get any weapons that could do mass damage (WMD's). Even if he did not have them. though he admitted he did, along with the UN, and most of the Security Council.

This to me is sufficent reason to take Saddam out.

It is not enough to liberate another country. We should only use military force to prevent a strike against us and not to be the world's police.

1. GW's retribution for Saddam's assassination plot against his father.

2. Personal dislike of Saddam Hussein by the Bush family and their Saudi friends.

3. Oil.

If it were for democracy, we would have invaded Saudi Arabia and never would have helped Kuwait as both countries are brutal dictatorships. If it were because Saddam murdered his enemies, we would have invaded Uganda, Rwanda, and Cambodia whose leaders murdered much more of their citizens.

I'll give you two

1. Saddam's genocidal rampages
2. WMD possibilities (that's why we invaded... perhaps not the best reason in hindsight)
