I think the best option for anyone looking to do a decent amount of recording on their PC is to get a TV tuner card. That way, you don't have to replace your existing video card. It installs into an open PCI slot on your motherboard.

I like the Hauppauge brand. For decent features that's not overkill, look at the PVR-150 or PVR-250 models. You should be able to get one on eBay or online for less than $125. WIth it, you can hook up cable TV, your antenna, your VCR, or anything that uses an RCA jack for video.

Now if you're just talking about saving video that you're watching over the internet, that's another story. If the website or internet source is provind the file in MPG or AVI format, then you can right-click the link and choose "Save Target As". However, most sites protect their content by streaming at a highly compressed quality. There's no way to record streaming video unless you have 3rd-party software. You might be able to find a tool out here that can do what you're looking for:

If you are talking about saving a video from the internet to your computer, sometimes you can't.

The easiest way to do it if you can is to right click on the link of the video and choose "Save to my computer".

Hope that helps.
