Ferdinand Magellan never circumnavigated the globe on any single voyage. While his expedition was the first to circumnavigate the globe, finishing the voyage in 1522, he did not make it back to Seville. He was killed on an island near the Philippines in 1521.

Previously, he had traveled EAST to the Philippine area. On the famous voyage traveling WEST, he made it past where he had traveled to the EAST previously. So, I guess you could say he was the first to travel around the world, but he did not do it on a single voyage...one went EAST and the other went WEST.

He sailed 1519-1522. I think he died on the trip, so technically it was the ship that made the trip. Not many of the crew survived. I'm pretty sure it was only two.
