I just interviewed for a bartending job, which seemed to go extremely well (you never know of course!) and ended with the interviewer telling me that they would be contacting people in the next couple of days for second interviews. Here's a couple of other things that i am wondering:

Is a thank you letter overkill considering that it was just an initial screening interview or should I send emails after every interview?

Should I explain why I am the perfect fit for them in my initial thank you email or should I "save some ammunition" for the second interview?

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Also, should I wait until the next day before sending the thank you email so it would serve as more of a reminder about our interview? I think if I send it right away it would lose some of it's effectiveness.

Following up an interview with a thank-you letter is always appreciated. It also communicates your interest in pursuing the job. A good close on the initial interview would sound something like this: "Based on our meeting today, do you feel that I have the qualifications you look for that you would move me up to the next step in the interview process?" Good luck.

I would send a typed thank you note with a typed envelope, thanking the interviewing for his time, expressing that you believe that this is a good fit, and letting him know your phone number for the follow up. The purpose of this letter is NOT TO SELL YOURSELF - that was what the interview was for, and if you put more "stuff' in there, then it's not a thank you note, and will backfire.

It is ok to also mention that you'll call them next week after they're completed the first round of interviews.

The next day just send a bried follow up and thank you. End with saying you hope to and look forward to hearing from them in the near future. I wouldn't go into lengthy detail about how you're perfect for the job or anything, just quick and to the point so they remember you. Not everyone will send letters, so that alone will make you stand out.

I would definitely send a thank you email for the informal screening interview and close with info about areas that could be discussed further such as: listening skills; bar tips that may not have surfaced at the screening interview and availability for the 2nd interview, listing email address and phone numbers.
