When I pause the game on my psp it restarts. Should return the game because of that?

That might depend on the game you are playing and how you are pausing it. If you are pausing with the Start button you might want to try just doing the quick off, pushing the power button up quickly, as opposed to a full off, pushing and holding the power button up until it goes off.
