The reason I asked is because my friend and I were out shopping and she wanted a new purse back pack but the only ones the store had on the shelves had American Flags with sequin (sp?..sorry) on them. She threw the bag down like it turned to ca ca in her hands. I asked her what was wrong the bag was cute and she said to me "I am not patriotic" she said i will never wear anything with an american flag on it..and i thought well ok thats fine but why? Well she has a bunch of friends that are really Anti-american. I don't just mean anti-government. I mean they hate the country and talk all the time about moving to Canada. I was just curious to see how many people felt like her friends.

can't we love our country and still despise our government and rue the media and beer that makes it all possible?

No I don't think its bad to be patriotic especially now. This is a great country despite what others may think and say. If it weren't so great then why are so many people dying (literally) just to come here. We are extremely blessed to have been born in a country where we are free and can do so much (education, career, religion, speech) I thank God everyday I was born here were I wasn't forced into a religion but I had the freedom to choose. Where my opinion as a woman counts. Where girls can go to school. Where women can choose to marry or not, and not be worried into being kidnapped and force to marry. I can be what I want, say what I want and do what I choose. It's awesome.I love the USA

If being Patriotic is a bad thing then I must be a bad person.. I don't see how being patriotic could be a bad thing...My husband is in the USAF I'll support him no matter what.... And I support all the troops even if I don't support the war.... Allot of the guys that are over there don't like the reason they're there... They're just doing what they think is best for all of us.... I love them even if everyone else doesn't... GO AMERICA....I LOVE THE USA...

really...i think bush might mean well, but just too dense to see things clearly, and too much wanting to help his 'buds'. america is really the best place i think. it is the idea and the freedom..not the mistakes of people in charge that matter. i'm grateful i was born here and not someplace i would be treated as property, or would have to be afraid for my life just going to the grocery store. patriotism is not a bad thing. it is bigger than the people you mistrust...they can and will be replaced eventually with other people in charge..maybe better or worse. but the idea of freedom is good. it is not stupid to love america. be proud if you wish. and change what you think is not right, by vote or petition. gosh that sounds so old fashioned..but it's really how i feel.

It is never bad to be be patriotic! We should all love our country! Those who don't are trying to get into ours! I understand that Bush is being lead by God and that his decisions are all made after prayer and guidance from many ppl. It is just my faith that has waivered when I can't see or don't understand the reasoning in some decisions. I don't understand a lot of political issues or war. I will just have to keep putting my faith in God and His plan for our wonderful country and world.I will understand it all when I get to Heaven.

The world is fuelled by misunderstanding. Love everyone's country. They are all, after all, equal. It is their home, and we should value it, just like Malaysians love Malaysia, Indonesians love Indonesia, Canadians love Canada, Aussies love Australia.

Sometimes our governing bodies are not that good to our international reputation. The power is in the people.

And Americans-the world understands you, the people.

It is not wrong to love your country. I love America. I love my country. But I also see it as my responsibility not to love my country so blindly that I am not willing to face the truth about my government.

You can love a person and still realize that they need a lot of help/are completely psychotic/are not ideal. So why couldn't you do this with America?

This is America we are talking about, you can feel practically any way you want to. After everything that the military has gone through, past and present, I think we ought to be Patriotic and support them whether you agree with the situation we are currently in or not.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with loving who you are, or where you come from. But that doesn't mean that you have to love and support everything about it.
As parents, we love our children unconditionally even though we do not always agree with the choices they make. It's the same principle with our country and government.

I am American and I have sworn to defend this country. I love America, but that does not mean that I like what is happening as of late. So that's how I see it. Americans though(that includes me)really need to start changing their attitudes about some vital things, from economics, to transportation, housing, and medical care, as well as a vast amount of attitudes. A nation that does not place the education of their children on top of their priority list, along with national(federal)health care for its citizens(healthy people create a lot less problems and in essence will save billions of dollars)to how they raise their children---to why they supported Prez Bush in invading Iraq. I will not wobble--either I am for or against something. Either I am a democrat or a republican(ticket splitting), either I am a racist or not---so there is a lot to be embarrassed about when you think of yourself as American these days. How many people here know, that yes, Hitler killed 6million Jews---yet, Americans killed 100 million African-Americans for being black--Americans built prison camps in Arizona and incarcerated Japanese, even American born Japanese there during World War II. So yes, it is a little embarrassing because we like to point out that we're a peaceful people. I see nothing peaceful in killing blacks for being blacks, in depriving our children of a good education, in denying citizens healthcare or good housing, not to talk about a president who took it upon himself to invade another country without the permission of the UN. If the UN acts as the worlds policestation, then Bush sho0uld have convinced them that it was absolutely necessary to invade Iraq, because if I invade my neighbors house because I think that my neighbor has firearms then I am the one who is breaking the law--therefore Bush did.

I am not patriotic because I do not believe that there was any valid reason to invade Iraq---the UN didn't find weapons of mass destruction. El Quida was not present in Iraq at that time---in fact, he opened Iraq for El Quida(and now it is a mess). All this reasoning does not mean that I don't like my country any longer--it only means that I don't like what's happening here at this time....

the only people who are anti American are liberals. so if your friends are liberals, that would explain a negative reaction from any nationalism. or pride.

i don't mean you have to be a pro-bush neo con, you can also be a true conservative who has disagreements with some of bush's policy, but realize that the REAL danger lies in democratic leadership. The social programs since the new deal are a double edged sword. in my opinion, they are partially responsible for the illegal alien problem...........but i digress.

be patriotic! fu*k the haters
