america goes to war for bragging rights--so that we can say all of our weapons are battle tested--we still have a lot of technology we havent tested yet
after we quit vietnam we could say that and russia couldn't so they invaded afghanistan then they could make that claim (i mean come on why else do you think we were in vietnam to begin with)
so you see, its just an endless game of one up each other
edit: dont kid yourself lady war does not equal world peace thats like saying i punched you in the mouth to make you feel better and what did 58,253 dead in vietnam achieve, world peace?
oh and yes i am a combat veteran

Oil is part of the reason, but there is more to it.
Being in Iraq is part of a bigger plan. You see it isn't just about Iraq. No, it isn't just about oil either.
However, let me ask you: How would you drive your car if gas was $10 a gallon? Most Americans wouldn't be able to afford it. That would crash the American economy as well as the global economy.
I am not that foolish to believe its only about the "freedom of Iraq." The bigger picture is the entire region. The Middle East as a whole needs to become civilized. Currently, only one nation has been civilized enough to have a democracy through representation. That country is the State of Israel.
We need to help Israel survive. Israel is surrounded by barbarians who cut the heads off innocent people and strap bombs onto their kids to kill other women and children. The Islamic Fascists need to be stopped before they arm themselves with nuclear weapons.
We have a presence in the Middle East to deal with this impending threat. If these nuts are successful and destroy Israel and invade Northern Iraq, do you think they are going to stop there? They already have their sights set on Europe and America. Their thirst for conquest won't end until they've conquered the entire world.
We are in Iraq to secure the region and Middle East. We are there to save the world from a nuclear armed Iran. Is it too late? I don't know, but we are there now and we need to do our best to prevent another Hitler and a World War III.

Bush himself admitted that Iraq had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11, so any of you idiots that still believe that load of crap should really take a good long look at yourselves and the hatred that you are propagating. Bush himself admitted that things are less stable now than before the war, so any of you idiot that still believe that the Iraqi people are better off now...see above.
Saddam Hussein killed approximately 35,000 of his own people over 35 years. The US killed between 120,000 and 500,000 Iraqis in the last 5 years...who has more peace? Iraq used to be a (admittedly fascist) secularly governed country where women had rights. Now it's an Islamic Republic where Sharia Law overrules any other law...women are now the property of their husbands or fathers, have to wear veils, etc. Freedom? I don't think so! A war battered nation with no safe drinking water anywhere in the country, electricity for a few hours per day in the few areas that have electicity, a rocketing cancer and radiation sickness rate due to Depleted Uranium munitions, an all out civil war...how is all of this living in peace? Education? Iraq was considered to have had a better education system than the US has, but now only a fraction of the people of school age actually get to go to school!
Only about 5% of the money slated for rebuilding has actually been used for rebuilding. The rest has gone to mega-corporations with VERY direct tied to the administration for doing no work at all. 15 billion barrels of oil "disappeared", while Exxon (who was given contract for Iraqi oil) made record profits...higher than any company in the history of the world (over $100 Billion just in profits...as the price of gas has soared). $8.8 Billion "disappeared" when delivered in cash in a truck to the middle of the Iraqi desert, where it was met by a bunch of trucks owned by these same corporations and was distributed without receipts, so the money was reported "missing". That was money that was supposed to go to the Iraqi people!!! And they are better off today? The death tolls reported by the Pentagon only reflect people killed within 3 minutes of being shot, bombed, etc by American troops...it doesn't count those that died in hospitals, ambulances, or of starvation (UNICEF counts deaths by starvation in the hundreds of thousands).
Exactly how are the Iraqi people better off? Money? They have less. Food and water? Less. Security? Less. Freedom? Less. Safety? Less. Education? Less!
To all of you pro-war people out there...try using your brains for once! It's easy to see that we attacked a sovereign nation illegally with no just cause, then proceeded to harm the citizens even more after the occupation was complete. We were lied to. There is no shame in admitting that...only shame in still believing something that the very people that told you the lies has admitted that they were lies. That is shameful, idiotic, ignorant, and makes you look like a complete moron! Still support the war? And I suppose you still think that it's Democrats who are the haters!
Please...for the sake of humanity...look in the mirror! Introspect! Do you really want war for the sake of war? Do you just want to kill people? Why don't you just get an x-box or something and kill virtually...why do you have to cheer on the murder of hundreds of thousands of innocent people?

To control the Middle East and its oil is the reason why we're there. Sadam was never a threat and never wouldve been. We can not fix what we have done, Those peoples lives have changed forever and cant take back whats done back. Thier homes and loved ones are gone. I wonder how many barrels of oil it took for each person who died?

To help a country who wants to have rights.
The right to be educated, the right to walk the streets without fearing their lives. The right to make decisions that impact their lives. The right to love one another. The right to dress and express oneself.
Just because they are a country with a different culture doesn't mean they all want it or desire it. They are weak in building that life on their own. We are teaching them to stand on their own and to fight for what they want. Unfortunately they live in a culture of terrorist and have lived in terror all their lives. It doesn't go away over night. It takes time. Someone has to help them.
God said "Love thy neighbor as I have loved you" I believe he meant our neighbors throughout the world... Not just the people on our block.
There may be politics involved, but it's not the reason we are there. If we don't fight for freedom, for peoples rights, then what is the point of having a military? Those who choose to sign up freely for the military chose to fight for what they believe in. We need to respect that. If they signed up for a free education and travel... then they signed up for the wrong reason.
If you don't see any changes or improvements, then you have blinded youself to only see the bad. Try educating yourself and se the good we have done. The schools that have opened. The women now able to get an education. The people who feel safer walking the streets. Yes there are still terrorist, but there are also areas where women can walk without their life being taken because their face was not covered enough.
You only see the bad stuff... what about the people there that are greatful to have us on their streets protecting them from their own people.
We are dealing with brain washed terrorist educated people. There is no quick fix for that situation and it does not come without pain or losses.
Thank you to those who have served to make others lives a little better.
A statement from their new leadership:
The Iraqi people want to succeed. They want to end this violence. Our strategy is to remain on the offense, including in Baghdad. Under the Prime Minister's leadership, coalition and Iraqi leaders are modifying their operational concept to bring greater security to the Iraqi capital. Coalition and Iraqi forces will secure individual neighborhoods, will ensure the existence of an Iraqi security presence in the neighborhoods, and gradually expand the security presence as Iraqi citizens help them root out those who instigate violence. ... Prime Minister Maliki was very clear this morning; he said he does not want American troops to leave his country until his government can protect the Iraqi people.

a lot of people say that this war has something to do with 9/11. But even Bush has said that it has nothing to do with it.
I agree that we should "cut and run". Just like we did in Afghanistan.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIES THE LIBERALS WANT YOU TO BELIEVE!!!!
President Bush said this week that he remains resolutely opposed to pulling out of Iraq and that such a move would not only be detrimental to our national security interests, but also to the newly formed Iraqi government and its people. “If you think it’s bad now,” warned the President at a news conference, “imagine what Iraq would look like if the United States leaves before this government can defend itself and sustain itself.”
In response, the administration’s opponents suggested, yet again, that a pullout from Iraq was the only solution. “We need to set a date to force Iraqis to stand up for Iraq...” announced once-and-future failed presidential candidate Jean Francois Kerry. However, a report recently issued by U.S. Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), who has visited Iraq six times since OIF began, directly refutes such mindless commentary: “Iraqi troops have almost doubled in the past year and they are now suffering 80 percent of the casualties. Iraqis are now taking part in over 90 percent of all security operations.”
“The Iraqi officials I have met with believe in what they are doing and they will not let threats of violence against them or their families deter them from their objective,” Cole wrote. “We have an obligation to finish the job we started. Our troops...have a tremendous amount of respect for the Iraqi people...their success is important to the future of the Middle East and the future of freedom-loving countries around the globe. Defeat in Iraq is unacceptable for the cause of freedom and security of the United States.”
As Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said during his recent address to the U.S. Congress, “Let me be very clear...Iraq is the front line [in] this struggle, and history will prove that the sacrifices of Iraqis for freedom will not be in vain.” We couldn’t agree more, and that’s just one reason why we shouldn’t only stay in Iraq, but stay for decades.

Oh you are another blame America Liberal. We are in Iraq to fight the TERRORISTS. The rehearsals for 9-11 were done there, that's how the f**** terrorists knew what to do. If we bring our troops home before we WIN THIS WAR, The terrorists will follow them to New York and we will have the war on our own shore. Think, "The Muslims want to chop off your head for Allah."
Then you will understand why it is necessary.

No improvement? 70% of the country lives in peace, 120,000 security personnel trained in 3 years and 80,000 to go in order to reign in the 30% of the nation living in terror. Terror perpetrated by individuals that stalk American supporters and behead them; leaving their heads on the edge of town for all to see. Sure we could leave - and leave those people to that fate...what a wonderful message that would send to the peaceful people of Islam and the world.
Life is so much worse now I know - after all they use to have lots of protests and marches in the street before the US arrived. They enjoyed a great deal of freedom - the freedom to dive into the pool of acide or be pushed in unwillingly; the freedom to have women raped at the bequest of the military leaders was rampant in Iraq. So much has just deminished there its hard to believe....yeah I'm sure they'd like to go back to thsoe days....
