I don't think I have the level of sensitivity and eclat to respond to this question with matching esprit and feng shui.

Once upon a time I was a good math student. The day after an exam, we went over the test answers and there was a question for which I HAD THE RIGHT ANSWER and I asked a lot of questions. A friend despised me for wasting class time and sucking up to the teacher because I already had the right answer, it was right on my test paper, there wasn't a lot of scribbling or doodling around it, so I was posturing to get credit with the teacher.

I never got back to him and told him the truth. I GUESSED the right answer, and my methodology for arriving at the answer was different from what had been taught. I wanted to know not only the right answer but the standard, repeateable methodoloy for getting the right answer.

A lot of questions on Yahoo!Answers are asked by people who, quite justifiably, don't trust their own ability to do research. I understand how they feel.

By the way, when I grew up I became a certified public accountant (chartered accountant as called in Canada and UK). No one else wants to stake their reputation on tax answers done through their own research. I have no problem, and if I'm not sure, I check with another pro that I can "bounce" answers off of. None of us --and this is a small club!-- got mad at each other for calling with a tricky question we already knew the answer for -- among auditors, this is called "confirmation."

So it doesn't bother me on those frequent occasions when there's a question for which the research is easy to do, an inquiry the questioner COULD have solved alone.
