I had it when I was about 7. I keep trying to explain to my husband what a great game it was, but if anyone has ever played this game, you know as well as I that the only way to understand is to play it. Man!!! Nothing was better than blowing up his hamster in the microwave!!!!

Excellent game. The sequel, Day of the Tentacle, is even better and even contains a complete, playable version of Maniac Mansion. Recently, fans of the original game made a free version with updated graphics that runs on any Windows PC. You can download Maniac Mansion Deluxe here:

My husband and kids still play this! My daughter likes Razer's music. My son likes to blow up the house with the keypad. I like it when you distract the mom with the phone and sneak into her room (you can also freeze her if you go into her room and change to a different kid for a few seconds but that's not as exciting). Bernard rules.

Edited to add: my kids (who are more adept than I at it) like Day of the Tentacle a lot but inform me that it's not as fun, for them, as MM. This is mainly b/c you can't make major mistakes with funny consequences; you might get stuck and not know what to do, but you can't accidentally blow something up or get thrown in a dungeon, etc. MM is satisfying when you win, b/c it's harder, but DOTT has a funnier ending with a few of twists.

I have never played it, but I have watched my bro play it. And Its vague, but I recall blowing up that hampster...the rest is a blank. It sadly is one of the numerous NES games Ive seen/played that I have forgotten.
