to be honest, I preferred when they wrote together. What they created as a duo was phenomenal....and hard to beat. When they went their own way...did their "own thing"...I didn't like it as much. I mean sure, they both had their shining moments while separated...but together...ah man, they were amazing.

a better songwriter? Well McCartney wrote mostly love songs or as he himself says "silly love songs" lennon wrote much deeper and meaninful songs. They were great as a team but seperatly well, being a huge Lennon fan I would have to say Lennon. McCartney himself says Lennon was more into the lyrics and less into the Pop culture..I do love them both however writing songs, Lennon listen to McCarteny Pauls First solo vs Lennons and see who has the deeper songs. All in all it depends on what your taste in music is pop or deep

Lennon was a much better song writer. He could take the simpliest words, and make the most powerful, thoughtful statements:

"Give Peace a Chance"

"Life is What Happens while your busy making other plans (from Beautiful Boy)."

"Imagine no posessions,
I wonder if you can
nothing to kill or die for
A Brotherhood of man."

McCartney is a good romantic song writer, but his work is not as profoundly though provoking as Lennon.

When the Beatles were together John wrote 80 % of the Music" and Paul 20% and that is why Paul wanted to leave in the later days of the Beatles, for he felt he wasn't getting enough song writing on his behalf. Then Yoko came along then things was really getting out of hand she was showing up every day at the recording studio and that is when they decided it was time to go their own way. and that is when Paul left the band, the end of the beatles was not to far away when paul left. Paul was the better singer but John was the better writer.

Lennon was by far a better songwriter.

McCartney wrote silly love songs and was proud of it.

Lennon actually had some wit.

McCartney was the better melodist, but his lyrics are usually quite pointless and trite. Lennon, on the other hand, tried to convey meaning in his words, but sometime his melodies were uninspired.

Since you need both good lyrics AND good melody for a good song, then I guess it is a draw. But with Lennon lyrics on McCartney melodies, you sure did have winners.

Lennon, man!

McCartney dosen't even compare to John Lennon's deep, meaningful lyrics & AMAZING voice.

Why ANYONE would want to kill one of the greatest musicians & political activists of all time is beyond me!

Mark David Chapman should rot in Hell for what he did to him!
