I know i sound thick but with so many to choose from and with different functions.
What are the best things to look out for and what price range.
Its only for my kids so they can see their mates when they chat.

I bought one for my daughter for exactly the same reason. She very rarely uses it . I would suggest going for the cheapest you can find (they are not that expensive anyway) and seeing if it gets much use. You can always buy a better one with zoom etc. later if it proves worth it

Go for a bottom of the range logitech.
They are usually pretty decent and can be bought for £10 - £15
the only function you really need is the webcam, the extras are not that important. Most will come with sound as standard anyway.

I got a 120 Spacecam £9-99 from Curry's. It does the job fine. You can use it as a cam or for taking still shots. It's easy to set up and comes complete with setup disc and instructions.

Just get something that will be compatible with your computer. The cheaper the webcam is, the better. Since they are kids they won't notice a different in quality, and in playing with it, you wouldn't want a more expensive one to get damaged. I always liked Logitech's webcams.

If you do not do it, you will find somebody else in your family doing it!
