I'm talking Elementary as well as Secondary grades. Is it confidence, looks, nice belongings? Does kindness have anything to do with it? Spell it out for me. I never really tried to figure it out when I was in school, but I do remember there was certainly politics at times. Just thinking of all the kids going back to school.

You have to wear all the cool clothes and you have to have big...well, you catch my drift. It's quite unfair. You only become popular with what your mama gave you.
On the other hand, there is another type of popular. You need to be able to communicate with others well-no shyness and have loads of friends. The higher up you are in the social ladder, the more likely you are to get a boyfriend.
In elementary, it's just whomever the kids decide is coolest. It's really different with every class. Most of the time, it is kids with very good socialization and who like to be around others. It is very different in small classes.
There really is no way to go 'unnoticed' unless you are very quiet and do not want to be noticed. This is based on my personal experience, but I suspect it is different with each school district.

Confidence! The kind that is loud and very sure of itself though, not the quiet confidence that others can exude. Establishing a pecking order right from the get-go especially at the beginning of the school year and often, exploiting the weaknesses of those who exude visible nervousness or quietness or those who have any visible "differences" from the greater group. Ie: fat, skinny, tall, short, glasses, braces etc.

Politics, diplomacy, and appealing to the desires of groups of people. I guess. Having a pool couldn't hurt. Dressing nice, looking good, basically being what others think they want to be. For some there is a whore factor to it. Some will do anything to get the perceived approval of their peers. Some just do their own thing and are admired for it. Bullies, or former bullies, tend to be higher on the totem pole than the masses.

Depends what kind of popular person you would like to be ... It could be based on all, one, or a combination of the characteristics that you listed ... ^^ ... Important things though, are that ... popular people in school don't completely spaz out, keep their cool, and yes, they do act confidently. And they just have a certain aura that draws people to them ... They must also know how to carry a conversation, relate to other people ... Might also be funny people ... o_O

I think it's something that a lot of kids try for but don't always reach.
Popularity can be solely based on kindness and not on looks or material items (which I tend to think of popular kids typically possessing) but often are.

Well, you have to have good looks, nice clothes, outgoing, play sports, good grades. Try to talk to the popular people. But, if your happy and wih people who enjoy your company, and they enjoy your's, then you already are popular. *SPORTS ARE REALLY GREAT WAYS TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS!

I think that confidence, appearance, and social status makes a person popular. Though it always helps to have a hot boyfriend or girlfriend. That is how it is at my school.

You got to have a sense of humor and be funny to be popular plain and simple. Unfortunately you can't be the quiet type. this is very true. I know by experience because I am the quiet type and was never the popular one in school.

Kindness, talking to everyone and befriending everyone.
Most people think it's looks and being mean, but those popular ppl are popular bcuz everyone else is scared of them. once ur nice u'll be more popular than them, guarunteed.
