At about 60 MPH my 2001 Mercury Cougar starts to vibrate in a pulsing rhythm, the faster I go the harder the car vibrates. The car has about 90K miles.

laura....this seems to be the worst place to ask advice about vehicle problems as i have noticed a lot of back yard mechanics on here who just like to spend others money
example...the guy saying about your stabilizer link....obviously does not know what the component is designed for
first...start by checking your tires for out of balance and/or a shifted belt, (a belt shift in a tire may also cause the vehicle to seem to wobble)
second....another possibility could be a bad constant velocity joint
third...spend the money to have a professional check it
PS-just so you know a stabilizer bar is meant to do just that...it helps stop the vehicle from leaning excessively when cornering
again...get it looked at by a professional

along with the suggestions for tires.. there is a component of your suspension called a stabilizer link. When this breaks, not a dangerous event, it simply allows more movement in the suspension than normal. I suggest slowing down until your resolve the problem. When your tires hop, it damages the tread, increases wear on the shock/strut and increases the potential damaging other suspension components.

Most likely is a tire balance issue. Could and might be a CV axle, or a tire is out of round, or even the struts may be wearing out. Hope these help some.

It could be several things but most likely it needs a re-alignment and some new tires. Check with your mechanic to be sure and shop around for alignment and tire prices.

The tires could be " cupped" and if so would need to be replaced--and the alignment checked. See if you can find a friend who knows what cupping is-they will be able to easily tell if yours are cupped just by running their hands over them.

Without much info I would look at the tires. Maybe a broken belt or lose of balance.

Probably a tire out of balance or worn shocks. Have your tires checked first.

Maybe your alignment is off. Check your tires
