Is it generally considered safe to continue to have sex after your cervix has begun to dilate? I have read that you should not if your water has broken already, but what about up until that point? No other problems with the pregnancy..

I was just at my 37 week check-up and found out I am 1 cm dilated. I asked him and he said to "have-at-it" !!! I am assuming that is a green light! He said it is actually good & can help your cervix continue to dilate. Not so much from the 'sex' part, but the prostoglandins in semen help soften cervix, and YOUR orgasm can stimulate contractions. But if it's not comfortable for you i wouldn't... why make yourself more uncomfortable than necessary at this point. Good luck!

sex is fine at any point as long as you are having a normal pregnancy with no complications and your water hasn't broken. Only thing it can do at this point is help things along so go for it you never know it may start you labor ( but it will only start things if your body is ready too)

You should ask your ob.

However when I was 4 cm dialated and waiting to go into labor, my OB suggested I go have sex.
