Why do I find it so difficult? My house is cluttered with things I collect, and things I have bought on ebay and in car boot sales. I have just started trying to get rid of these things, but I am finding it such hard going. I also find it difficult to dust and clean the house - I keep leaving it - am I just lazy, or is there something wrong with me? Does anyone else have these dificulties, and do you know of any solutions?

Hi Britman,
In case you haven't noticed - I am a woman! I think it would be better to get a man to do it!

First if your house is cluttered, it makes it harder to clean.Get some friends or family together and have a multi family yard sale. Advertise larger pieces that don't sell, in the paper and donate the rest. Then you will feel more like starting to clean. Just tackle one room at a time from ceiling to floor. Before you know it you'll have a clean house and feel better about not having so much junk around. Stop collecting and save that money to take a vacation and get away from it all. You might tour some historic homes while you'r away. That usually makes you want to change things when you get home.

I have the same problem and I don't know why either. I like cleaning. I used to work for a cleaning company and it was probably my fav job yet. I think its because I work all day and I don't feel like coming home and working some more. Its also I think because my husband and I live in an apartment right now and we know it will never be our permanent home so we dont take the same pride in it as we would if it were our own house. I try to do a little bit each day rather then cleaning all at once. Like I might do dishes one day, vaccuum the next, dust the next, laundry then next, just so I only spend a little time doing it all each day.

Sometimes it's hard to get motivated, but have a garage sale. You will be amazed at the money you get and how nice your house looks without all of the clutter. That in turn, makes cleaning easier.

I am bi polar and it takes me several days to do a simple chore. i have helped my problem by hiring someone once a month to clean and letting her throw out anything I'm not using. I have gotten rid of 95% of my collectibles and my birds as they spit and s,, everywhere and were too much for me. Now I just have the dog and i keep up as best I can this is a real hard thing for me

Yes, it can seem overwhelming. Have you ever heard of the Flylady? She has an anti-clutter website that's a little bit silly but it can also be helpful. Her idea is that you ought to do a bit at a time, and not try to do it all at once. Take a look at http://www.flylady.com/pages/begin_babysteps.asp . You don't have to follow her plan; just see if the ideas make sense to you.

There really is nothing wrong with you.. What happens is that there is so much to do that you dont know where to start. I would suggest picking some of your more loved pieces and than flowing each room around that them or collection. You will find that once you get it started you will chear up and feel so much better and accomplished that you will wiz right threw the rest.

Have a look at this site ! FLY = Finally Loving Yourself, it will help you get organised! There are millions of emails from them - I just get the weekly digest and delete the ones I've not had time to read. That's the good thing about it - you can just pick it up on the day!

Each week they target an area of the house....
