Yes, I have. I was looking around on Craigslist.com under misc and there was an opportunity to be a mystery shopper. I registered online. A rep called me and sent me to an electronics store, something like a low budget Best Buy. I had a note pad to jot down what I thought about the store, location, products, price, and bargain value compared to other stores and products. I took my notes in to see the rep and I did a mock camera interview on whether or not I would buy a specific product. It was a plasma tv. Although I wouldn't, I said that I would, and recommended it based on its value. The interview wasn't for tv, I believe it was for marketing purposes. I was given a $200 check on the spot.

You can probably find other opportunities on Craigslist.com.

Best job ever! As a student, that is. I was a Starbucks mystery shopper in university. But I had exams one week, and ended up putting off my assignment as a mystery shopper to the last day. I ended up going to over 12 Starbucks locations. I had 12 frappes in a four hour time frame (the pastries I saved for later!). Talk about a caffeine rush. Now I live in a rural area where we are without a Starbucks. Alas.

I answered an ad in the newspaper. There are often ads that read "Mystery Shopper Wanted". You answer some questions on their site, and you will get sent assignments in your area which you are free to choose. All of my frappes and pastries were paid for, plus I got a per assignment bonus.

The Canadian site is www.premierservice.ca. There is probably an American link.

Might I add, if one doesn't understand the concept of a Mystery Shopper, they why write a response to the question? I understood it just fine - as did most of the others who have anwered. Ignore the malcontent.

A mystery shopper is someone hired by a company to go into stores and buy stuff and rate the employees on such things as how helpful they were and if the store was clean and well stocked. CompUSA uses mystery shoppers all the time. and one of the perks is since you are useing the companies money to buy the stuff you get to keep it for free.

I tried mystery shopping. it is a waste of time and money. they send you to say a restaurant for two. you pay for the lunch or dinner which ever they send you on. then you wait six to eight weeks to get your money back. so you see it is a trick, you pay for it and then get your money back. then they put you on a list and you wait months to do something else. it is a waste. you don't get paid, you use your money just to get it back. they are not paying you. I rather do surveys, I make money on surveys. also they want you to lie. I am sure you are not a lie, as I am not a liar and will not lie. one time they wanted me to make believe I was buying a diamond ring. I will not lie for anyone and I am sure you would not. on another time they wanted me to make believe I was interested in a two bedroom. I have a boy and girl. how would that look asking for a two bedroom instead of a three bedroom. so I stopped doing mystery shopping.
