Sand them. Paint them. Or maybe if they are beyond repair just saw them at the bottom and discard them in a pile of old wood. If you are serious about this project perhaps you can get the boyscouts in your community to assist you. We had a problem in my community a few years back with disgusting posts which were rotted from weeks of heavy rains. We employed the local boyscouts and girlscouts in a weekend effort to get rid of all the disgusting posts so our town would look nice again. Good luck with that.
