Yes, not only Americans but all around the world. There are groups of people that play a character in rotation, day and night, and advance quickly. The items they find are eventually sold on line to other players for real money (ever quest, final fantasy, Sims, etc.). Some games are instructive, but others, if addicted, can waist your life away.

I am. I have been playing video games since I was 2 years old. I did a report on video game addiction in college and found out that theres not a lot of research being done yet because most people don't consider it a big problem like alcohol, drugs, and gambling (another form of gaming).

A whole bunch more than would admit it. *Sssshhhh* The 'adults' like myself, were supposed to quit playing 'childish' games a long time ago. That stupid programming of thought has made them all but go into hiding the fact that they like to 'play' at all, let alone like it so much that they might be addicted.

I proudly admit that I'm of age & I love gaming of all kinds, from table top to video....& I'm addicted to it too, but not at the expense of other things in my life like relationships.

Wow. That was quite freeing to say. *phew* :)

I've never played any and none of my family has either. We're not against them, we just always had more fun doing other things that we never spent the money on a system for one.

when I find a good game, I get addicted for about 2 weeks, then it phases out of my system. I think it's more of a "couch potato" version of leisure activities.
