well for $1099 you could get a macbook from apple (apple.com) their pretty sweet.
just look at what cnet.com says about it " Thin and light; robust software package, including Mac OS X Tiger; magnetic lid latch and scrollable touch pad; DVD burner; built-in Webcam; remote control; and can run Windows XP using Apple's free Boot Camp utility."
its just $99 above ur budget and possible the best laptop of today, i highly reccoment getting it, I have it and i totaly love it.

Probably the Compaq Presario V series laptops. They are pretty affordable and you can get them for around 1000.
