There are those that claim that it does but what it really does is make them FEEL smarter or witty or more musical - some evidence suggests that such a person may be blocked from their own creativity and the drug just lets them connect to their feelings, much the same way an alcoholic "medicates" him/herself against whatever it is in life they cannot cope with. All I can say from person experience is that I am a non-drug-using musician who laughs everytime I ever had a fellow musician either write or play one of their own compositions while stoned. Sometimes they'll play the tapes back and say : "what WAS I thinking - that's too confused!" Drugs might make you feel better (for a time) but they do NOT make you a better musician - far from it - they will slow your responses and confuse your thinking. I knew one guy who forgot his own music while playing it - couldn't remeber which verse he was on - 12 reefers a day give me a break!!!! Only drug I ever needed was just about two cups of coffee or tea. DON'T NEED DRUGS!

No. For instance, Frank Zappa never did drugs.

Contrary to popular belief, the Beatles never did drugs while recording. They say so on their multi-VHS/DVD Anthology. I don't know about writing the songs, but not while recording.

IMHO if you need drugs to be creative, you're just not a very creative person, and maybe you should find a new hobby or profession, like burger flipping.

If your thinking of taking drug so you can write better lyrics don't do it just think how much further you can go with the song writing if you stayed clean.

some of the best rockers did and still do drugs.
there is a fine line between good music and sucky music..i guess alot of them got lucky making good music..because for every good musician..there are plenty of lousy ones.

drugs are supposedly enhancing your mind and thus allowing you to create freely..out of the box kind of thing you know.

i wouldn't do it..but i don't know a helluva lot about writing music.

i like how guys like the Rolling Stones, Bowie, etc..all did alot of dope and still come out on top.
