I live in Moore Oklahoma, twice in recent history tornadoes have devestated the city. We rebuilt the town better than before in less than a year; using for the most part private funds. Why does New Orleans feel entitled to tax money to rebuild; and why do they feel the right to complain when it is not done quickly enough.

Moore did not stand in ruins for years because WE rebuilt it. We did not wait around for the government to do it for us. I am a Republican but I did not blame Bill Clinton for destroying my house. I also did not expect the Clinton/Gore administration to sve me from the tornado. When the storm came I went into the shelter that I purchase for myself.

A Canadian playing the race card and bashing the USA, now there is something different. Americans are not racist but we do think Canada is a nation of useless hicks.

They feel like they deserve federal funds because they are a bunch of whiney "welfare leeches". They are so used to living on federal funds that that's what they want to continue doing. Who in their right mind lives below sea level? The ghetto in NO just expanded too far. They don't need the money because they shouldn't rebuild. Did anyone notice that the oldest part of the city wasn't affected? The French Quarter was built ABOVE sea level. They actually sat down and thought for a minute. The ghetto-dwellers just need to move somewhere else. The crime was so bad there before anyways. They need to take it somewhere else.

Yes. I said it. I don't care about being PC, and I know I said what so many people are thinking but are too afraid to say.

I'm a Canadian and I have more empathy then you Americans over new Orleans . Katrina was the worst storm on record, how the hell can you compair it to a Tornado. It isn't a question of people not having insurance. The insurance companeys are doing everything they can to get out of paying, even to the people that did have insurance .

Fed aid was given to every storm that ever hit Florida and people keep rebuilding and rebuilding why are they any differant ? If it were your whole city that was destroyed you all would be doing the same damed thing. Your just luckey it wasen't you. The fed goverment has spent a hell of alot more money on Bagdad then it did New Orleans and you arn't going to get any return on those tax dollars. But hell thats a well thought out war its differant.

Why dont you all admit that your just biggots and New Orleans is a poor city and you would just rather not help them because you feel like they arnt worth it , But before you do let that thought get into your head, just remember , It could happen to you too.

I can't believe you Americans just all say let them deal with it thats pretty easy if you're family roots for generations are not there . I'm also sure that the people of that city payed their fair share of taxes and the people wouldent know one way or another if their local polititans are corrupt. just like a hell of alot of you cant see that the Bush Goverment is corrupt,

You know what they say about people who live in glass houses not throwing stones. Maybe its a good thing if they don't live in huricane prone areas as well . Ah yes The good old USA land of the free home of the brave, but the hell with our own citizens.

Extravagant promises were made but not kept.

Without minimizing your problems, Katrina was a major event. Consider your tornado, then imagine that you are kept away from your property from months and that the house is soaked in badly contaminated in bilge water.

The Port of New Orleans and the Mississippi River are significant elements of the nation's transportation system. But again, promises were made in the most public way for political advantage. The advantages have gone to outside profiteers who made big money on no-bid contracts and then left town. Shameful.

The devestation was such that the state of Louisiana could not adequately pay for it. Oklahoma also receives federal aid for tornados, but the devestation does not compare to that of New Orleans. It was a crisis where lives hung in the balance, and the federal government did not respond in time, killing a significant number of people and failing to aid the city sufficiently. Has your city been in ruins for a year because the government cannot rebuild it? I think not.

Dammit that is a GREAT question! I have not, and will not give one penny to the New Orleans cause. Why? Because over ONE BILLION dollars has now been misappropriated or 'lost' in trying to help the city.
Another reason is insurance. I feel that if you chose not to have insurance on your home, then why the heck should the government bail you out?
I don't think NO is entitled to ANY more money than it already has. These folks CHOSE to live in a flood prone area, CHOSE to live in a hurricane prone area, CHOSE not to have insurance on cars, homes, businesses. Its not my concern or issue. It pains me that my tax dollars are going there at all.
I think I may just post my own question on this.

The whole area was decimated and they do need the help of some federal money. There are many costs in rebuilding a whole city. I don't think they should complain about how long it's taking because that is on the contractors and workers that are rebuilding.

Because the government is supposed to help in time of disaster, although they pick and choose who they will help and when..but really it has been a yeaar, and it should be further along then it is, i think it shows how poor new orleans really is, in my opinion it should not be rebuilt at all, but I know that there is a lot of history there so it will be rebuilt.

There are a lot of corrupt contractors and local politicians to pay off....need federal funds...can't afford to pay them off with out the big bucks while most of the people live some where else.

I think they don't feel entitled I think its because the great spender, our president promised it to the city during one of those carefully choreographed propaganda missions he goes on in front of the cathedral a couple of weeks after Katrina. bush gives more money away in all forms than any democratic administration since Johnson.

because thet're a democratic state!?!?!? No seriously, I know what you are saying. I couldn't help but ask the same thing. Just after Katrina and Rita (I live in San Antonio, TX). I stood in a line at Wal-mart with my last $40 to buy gas and groceries...and two women had a shopping cart with IPOD accessories, CDs, movies, etc...and their FEMA card clutched in their hand. Yeah, it made me sick too.
