Yes, very much...Average hourly wage were $30 per hour years ago! Think about it...Average hourly wage in US are around $7. Do the math, you will find out how much you will spend on everything 4 times more than here...except Sushi...the cheapest meals in Japan...still $1 to $5 per dish as here (2 pcs) as you would pay in US at restaurant qualities...

Yes, Japan is very expensive. Plan to bring a lot of money and spend a lot of it. There are three paper denominations in Japan: 1000 yen (about $10), 5000 yen, and 10,000 yen (about $100, actually about $90 now) (there is also 2000 yen but it is rare), and there is a saying that if you break the 10,000 yen bill it is basically gone. I usually keep 30,000-70,000 yen cash in my pocket, though since credit cards are finally catching on here you many not need that much.

In Tokyo, there are some cheap hotels, but they are pretty stripped down and basic. For example, you can stay at Heart Inn Nogizaka near Roppongi (a popular foreigner, esp American, hangout) for less than $100 a night. Otherwise expect to spend more than twice that. If you look around you can find stuff in the roughly $100/nite range - usually business hotels.

There are flea markets in Japan - usually these occur at a large temple or shrine and happen on scheduled days (e.g. the third Sunday of the month, etc) You can find all kinds of stuff pretty cheap.

Most teens you see around town will be dressed in their school uniform (very common in Japan). Tokyo fashion changes very quickly, and sometimes in weird, but not always.

For Tokyo sightseeing:
imperial palace - can't actually see the palace, but you can see forts and gates
Shibuya - near the station is sort of the "Times Square" of Tokyo - tons of people hanging out - you can see some of the latest fashions
Tokyo Tower - yeah, it looks like an orange and white version of the Eiffel Tower, and it actually is taller by a meter or something - cheesy displays etc but has good views of the city
Odaiba - did not exist 15 years ago - an enormous landfill in Tokyo Bay with lots of restaurants, shopping, an amusement park (Sega) inside of a building, great views of Tokyo
Meiji Jingu - a very large shrine dedicated to the spirit of Emperor Meiji - there is a nice quiet garden in there as well
Asakusa / Sensoji - very large temple with a mall of shops leading up to it
Tsukiji - the biggest fish market in the world - if you go, make sure to get there by 5:30am so you can see the auctions - finish off with a sushi breakfast
Sumo - if you are in Tokyo in mid-Jan, mid-May, or mid-Sept think about seeing Sumo, the national sport of Japan - goes all day for 15 days, ending at 6pm, the top competitors go last, so the last 2 hours is the most exciting
Ginza - for shopping - Tokyo's Fifth Avenue, and historically an entertainment area
any Japanese festival (matsuri) - if you can, attend one - they are usually very fun! especially the local ones

The good thing about Tokyo is that it has a wide range of accomodations to fit your budget. You can find lodging for as cheap as $35 US per person/night. It would naturally be a small room, but it would be clean and safe. I don't see what flea markets have to do with your visit (do you want to sell stuff there?), but yes, there are flea markets. As for your question, "And is the teens wear weirdly?," if what you mean is "Do teens dress weird?," then the answer is yes and no. Some dress weird, while others do not. Tokyo is fashion capital of the world. You will find everything from the bizzarre to the chic. As for your last question, Tokyo has tons of interesting places.

oooohh, I wouldn't recommend only two days. You are going to be spending upwards of $1500 on a round-trip ticket (maybe as low as $750, depending on where you live in the US). If you want to even get the most out of that plane ticket cost, you'll want to stay as long as you can.

If you plan on buying a lot of things, then bring some cash. Or better yet, use credit cards that work in Japan. Most bank cards do it, or some companies even offer prepaid cards with no fees. It's the fees you have to worry about. If you are not worried about carrying several hundred dollars in yen, then I would recommend that. The only fee you'll pay is the fee at the exchange place, which is always very small. And Japan is very safe. Remember that while you are there; it will help you to not be afraid to try things there.

I stayed in some very nice hotels for only about $100 a night. Are you saying that's expensive? Not really, maybe twice as much as America, but you get a decent, Western-style hotel. You could probably find local hotels that are cheaper, or more Japanese-style that is cheaper. I think $100 is worth the price. And I am talking about Hearton Hotels. Not located in very many places in Japan, but if you happen to want to go to any of these cities, these hotels are highly recommended.

There are plenty of flea markets, and I suggest seeking these places out. You can usually find some cool things for very reasonable prices. And most teens do not wear weird clothes (if that's what your question was). College students, though, may have some interesting attire. Overall, nothing much more than what you would see here.

You may have the mindset that the only great place to visit in Japan is Tokyo, but that is not true. Although I'm not saying Tokyo is bad, in my experience to several other major cities (Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Nara, Gifu, etc.) I would highly recommend Kyoto. But if you really want to stay in Tokyo, then I would recommend visiting Harajuku. A great shopping district.

And to be quite honest, Japan doesn't feel crowded at all. Rather, I feel like it is part of the culture. I think many Americans would consider Harajuku crowded, but it's not a big deal. It's part of the country, and in many places, the crowds aren't half-bad. The only thing I would not recommend is the Tokyo Metro. Crowded to the extreme. But other than that, you should be good to go.

Oh wait; you want a straight answer to your question? I would say yes, it is very expensive. But it is so worth it. I would recommend a two-week trip, and recommend a few of the cities I mentioned above. But if you had to visit just two, I would make it Kyoto, and Hiroshima. Since you'll probably (or inevitably) want to visit Tokyo, you can probably squeeze that in there. But I would recommend saving a few thousand dollars (seriously, probably like $3000). You'll be using a grand on the flight alone, probably. But believe me, you'll love Japan. But, uhhh...learning the language may have been part of the factor of me loving it so much. So, bring a guidebook or a friend who speaks Japanese. And prepare for the time of your life.

Visiting Japan can be expensive, Japan is definitely not the cheapest of all holiday destinations, but you can travel on budget in Japan. I wouldn't recommend you staying at cheap hotels, but there are youth hostels/backpackers you can look into. The cost for staying in a youth hostel is usually half to one-third the price of hotels. Most youth hostels, however, doesn't have in-suite bathrooms so you'll have to go to public baths (which is about 100-250 yen). But hey, if you're in Japan, might as well go native :P. Yes, there are flea markets in the major cities in Japan, so don't worry about that. The teenagers who wear weird clothing are mostly in Harajuku (the entertainment district of Tokyo), in other areas of Japan you won't see a lot of them. There are many interesting areas in Tokyo, depending on what you like. When you're off the plane in Narita or Haneda, pick up a travel guide and pick whichever area that you like. I posted a Wiki link on Tokyo as a guide.

2 days is not enough to explore all of Tokyo, but at the bare minimum you want to have enough money for food, a place to stay and transport. A decent meal (not the cheapest and not the most expensive) costs about 1000-4000 yen, so times that by how many times you'll be eating in Japan. Add your accommodation cost, and get 2 x one-day pass for trains/bus in Tokyo (the most expensive of these is 2300 yen/day). Add about 3000 yen a day just-in-case (souveniers, drinks, etc.)

Japan is the most expensive place to visit, at least Tokyo is and probably some of the larger cities. I am not sure about the countryside. I do not know if they have a motel system as we do. Mt. Fuji, the beautiful religious gardens, the emperor's palace, the Ginza in downtown Tokyo, and the tower that is like the Eiffel tower is in Tokyo also. It is a really interesting place.

"And is the teens wear weirdly?"
huh?

Tokyo is a fashionable place. Everyonce in a while you'll run into a group of people dressed differently. Its like this in any other big city.

If its your first time to Tokyo, then I'm sure you'll find any place pretty interesting.

Lastly. Japan IS expensive. Hotel, transportation (plane, train, taki, rentals, whatever), FOOD, entertainment, and gifts/presents for when you go home. Like the person said above me, there IS a range, but when only in Tokyo for two days, its hard to find good deals. If you're interested...try looking into capsule hotels, I heard they can go for around $10 (around ¥1100) a night. But I've never been, so check it out yourself.

Japan is much cheaper than America when it comes to drinking and eating. Many all-you-can eat/drinks for as little as 20 dollars US. Small business hotels are also quite reasonable. Some people are sleeping in 24hr Internet Cafes these days. You get a private room with a comfortable lounge chair. Overnight costs would be about 40 dollars. Many discounts to be found. But most tourists are lured to expensive areas, hence the reputation.

If you want to see people dressed wierdly go to yoyogi park which is on the yamanote line which is the cirlcular train line which services Tokyo. You can catch a train from the airport to tokyo for about 1000 yen.
