I don't get why the more socially libertarian party is so authoritarian here.
I don't want to hear why guns should be banned or not. I argue that every day.

I just want to hear HOW it is more consistent with Democratic ideology than with Republican ideology. It seems like it should be vice-versa.
Also, aren't Democrats worried about the Republicans taking over the whole country by force? The Dem. party is so tiny and poor, the only defense against a Republican coup is armed people!

(FYI- in case you wonder about me, but I'm bound to post a separate question about THIS in the next few days, so wait for it, PLEASE:
I personally don't think they CAN be banned, because such a prohibition would be impossible if it were enforced without guns, and hypocritical if enforced by means of them. Someone [read: police, military, politicians' thugs] will always use guns to oppress someone else, and the only answers to that are either complying with something shady, getting shot, or fighting back)

Why does this question keep coming up.Everything that needs to be said about guns has already been said, and guns still remain.

Studies have show that guns in the hands of the people contribute to a reduction in crime, and the people consists of members of all of the political parties.

Governments cannot practice full and total enforcement of their laws, ergo guns will end up in the hands of some of the people, usually in the hands of the criminal elements. And again, the criminal elements consists of both Democrats and Republicans.

If a study is made, I believe it will show that the support of guns, for personal protection, is not affected by the political leaning of the person questioned.

Democrats in general want to ban guns for the same reasons the Nazis did...so that the people of the nation could offer no resistance to the government's absolute hold on power. The Nazis did it, and the Dems would do the same if they get their way. Republicans, for all of their faults, understand this and that's why they are pro Second Ammendment. Private ownership of guns is the ultimate check against the power of an overbearing government. If you don't believe me read Thomas Jefferson's views on the subject.

There apparently are many people posting, who never take the time to watch congress in action (on tv). If you had, you would have to take back a lot of what has been presented in your posts..The last time the gun bill came up for debate, I wonder which party was so staunch in their support of gun control.??? They decried the second amendment didn't really mean what it said... This went on for days. Get some facts before making such outrageous statements.

I think you are falling into a strereotyping trap. Opinions on gun control vary across the political sprectrum. Just because one party mollycoddles a special interest does not mean all voters in that demographic are in favor of unrestricted gun use. I lean toward Democrat and I am in favor of non-criminal citizens having firearms. Automatic and semi-automatic are a different story, though.

I'm a Democrat and I have nothing against guns, infact, I own three. You're labeling people into a general blanket statement. It's the same as me saying, "Why do all Republican's want to kill everyone?" Just because one or a few do doesn't mean they ALL do. Jezzzz

People in poor neighborhoods, mostly in city ghettos, also tend to vote Democrat. They experience more shootings due to gang violence, drugs, domestic disturbances, rapes, and armed robberies. Many, in fear of crime, carry a concealed weapon or keep one loaded in the home, car, or store. Some don't want guns around because their teenagers carry them "to be cool" and end up in trouble with the law, or getting shot themselves. The problem is that many of these guns are illegal or are not carried legally, and the people aren't usually trained in firearm safety (although those with military service are usually trained).

Republicans tend to be suburban or rural dwellers, tend to use their firearms for hunting, target shooting, or collections, tend to obtain and carry them legally, and many younger shooters have formal firearms safety training.

The statements above are generalizations and not intended to stereotype anyone, but they do explain some of the difference in Republican and Democrat outlook on this subject..

"Answerman", who says no Democrat wants you to give up your guns, has conveniently "forgotten" Democrat Senators Dianne Feinstien, Charles Shumer, Ted Kennedy, Barbara Boxer, and many others like them.

If the Liberals read the second amendment like they do the first, they would require every one of military age to own a fire arm. As for the answer, Libs are socialist/communist. They believe the answer to every problem is found in the government and government is the only entity that can solve problems. Not to mention, they don't trust rednecks.

Generally, the banning of something does not tie in with a liberal ideology, which preaches freedom to do whatever you want. However, guns are an exception. When the freedom to do what you want infringes on somebody else's freedom, the issue must be evaluated. In this case, guns infringe on everybody's right to security. Since the point of guns is to kill, liberals think the right to peace and tranquility over-rides the right to possess a weapon which is used to kill. It doesn't really conflict with a liberal viewpoint that much.

Really, there is no democrat wants you to give up your gun. This is repuglican rhetoric that has been spread by the NRA and has no basis in reality. I am a democrat and I am also a life long gun owner and hunter. I would back no candidate that would take my guns away from me. Do not believe anything that you hear from repuglicans as they are just trying to get your vote.
