I just had my bike serviced and dyno tuned. about 3 weeks later my bike starts to run on 3 cyclinders instead of 4 (16vavles). I have checked the plugs they are fine, no build up and all have a good spark. the thing that puzzles me is that the dead cylinder alternates between 2 cylinders, 2 and 4. its not using oil. My so called bike macanic cant figure it out either. Does anyone have any ideas of what the problem can be?

All wrong I'm afraid. I have owned several in line four Suzuki's and every single one of them has at some point or other ran on three cylinders. Suzuki's are well known for doing so. It helps if you take the fuel tank off and spray WD40 over the coils, low tension leads and high tension leads. I bet the bike runs on all four if you run it for a few minutes then switch it off and re start it. Mine all did. The fact that your mechanic hasn't heard its a common thing with Suzuki's suggests you should look for another mechanic! its a common problem and there is NOTHING WRONG!

What year is bike? It cant be the coils because they fire 1&4 or 2&3 cylinders. It has to be either an intermittent short circuit (bad connector/pinched wire) or dirt in the carburettors (if its not fuel injected). How are you checking to see which cylinders are not firing? Check all the wiring first for dirty/loose contacts, then check carbs are clean. It could be a charging/battery problem if its a fuel injected bike, they dont run right when battery voltage drops below 10V.

Personally I would look to the CDI for a fault, as you have 1 coil feeding cyl 1/4, and the other feeding 2/3. So you can rule out coil break down as it is hugely unlikely they are breaking down togeather. Also check your earth lead from battery to the frame as this could help.

I think that its the HT lead between the coil and the plug, possibly horting on the frame. the also wear and deteriorate at the plug cap.

Change the leads and I think your problem will go away

one of your coiles is shorting out. it may be a loose ground, or your wire is grounding to the frame. or the coil is going bad. 2&4 probley share the same coil.
now throw that pice of crap away and go bey a harley.

Sounds to me like you have an intermittent coil. It is on it's way out so I would be ordering one soon.

bring the bike to an auto spark, see if they can sort it out. whatever it is its an electrical fault
