Barry Bonds, because at that age, people in athletics should retire. Even with a bum knee and side affects from performance enhancing stuff, he can still play the game.

Bill Hall, hard working, under-the-radar player who has big time potential. Everyone else that lists their favorite player is listing obvious ones (A-Rod, Ortiz, Clemens) These are guys who have been around the block and everyone knows who they are. Most of those guys also take their fame for granted. I love the ball players who have passion for the game and what it represents. I would play in the MLB for free if I was good enough.

Mariano Rivera... he's been the gold standard and model of what a closer should be for 10 years. He never loses his composure, dominates consistently, and is virtually automatic, even though people have been seeing his pitches for so long. He has 4 rings to validate him, and I'm thinking he'll have a couple more before his career is over.

Derek Jeter, without a doubt.

The way he carries himself on, and off, the field with class and dignity. A true role model for today's youth.

Oh, yeah, and he's a darn fine ball-player, too.
