I agree with you 100%.
I'm 26 years old, and I don't wear as much makeup as they had on that little girl.
I think the real tradegy of this is that she never had a childhood, and she never will.

"having her prance around on a stage to grown adults???"
"No wonder some guy went after her.".
News flash. High Glitz pageants, what JonBenet did, have VERY TIGHT security. Your kid is more at risk at church, sports, and especially school. Sometimes teachers become teachers to perv on little kids. Other events in public have no security screen!
Pageants, on the other hand, are practically impossible to get into. Many pageants have a system that woks like this...
You get a wristband as the parent, and one for the daughter. Only wrist banded people can get into the room where the pageants take place. ONLY THE PARENT CAN BUY ADDITIONAL BANDS with a limit! That's right. The parent needs to show their marked band, get out their ID and prove they are the parents listed on the form, then they can get 2 more bands... if it's a family member or friend.
Therefore, no pervert can simply buy a wristband to get in, or just sit down and watch... get your facts straight!
NO. Pageants are just like modeling.

"Led to"? No. Someone's sick choices led to that child's death. The rest is just part of almost as sick of a thread that runs through our society. Dressing a child up to look like an adult puts them in the radar of actions and consequences they're not supposed to be handling yet. Next time you open up a magazine, find out how many of those "models" are nothing more than preteens dressed to look 20+. It's downright scary if you have children. I'll assume until proven otherwise that JonBenet's parents only wanted the best for their daughter. They just didn't stop to think where it might lead.

See, that, to me, is a bit like saying that when a woman is raped, it's her own fault because she was asking for it. We all know that's bullsh*t. People have the right to dress how they want, and that includes six-year-old girls. Now, if the mother were literally selling her daughter to pedophiles on the street, that would be different. As it stands, though, I don't think responsibility should be placed on the mother for the child's death unless she caused it directly.
Now, this doesn't mean that I approve of child beauty pageants. However, the reason I object to them is because they often end up being the child's entire life. Being in one is fine, because it allows one to learn about competition and all that jazz. But girls like JonBenet, whose entire existence revolves around pageants, are constantly being shunted from one to another, and they don't have time to laugh, play, and make friends, like all children should. And it often ends up being the parents that want to do it, not the child. That's a terrible waste of childhood, if you ask me.

I think Jon Benet's mother may have unknowingly put her daughter in harm's way. I say "may have" because we still don't know who killed Jon Benet. We may never know. I am still waiting for the evidence on Karr.
I am not saying that all pageants are bad but the kind Jon Benet was in went too far, I believe. The mother's became so competitive they went beyond "cute" and leaned toward the makeup and sexiness. I don't think they mean to direct the wrong attention to their daughter's, but they should have considered the sickos out there who might be turned on by babies in makeup.

This is the type of mentality I despise. It's like saying a girl got raped, because she was asking for it by wearing a short skirt. Rape is sexualized aggression, not aggressive sex. The primary point to deal with is the anger, maliciousness, and violence on the part of perpetrator, not anything the victim does. Don't ever blame the victim.
I do think the charade this mom put her daughter through was twisted, but murder and rape are not justified in any situation.

If they want to have beauty pagents, how about they start at the age of 21, when the women have *hopefully* worked through any potential body image problems facilitated by the media.
Personally, I hate those beauty pagents for kids. I can't imagine how a six year old could understand why a judge would think that one kid is more talented or prettier than another, especially when the kids usually just do it please their mums and dads.

No I don't.
And you don't know that this "kook" on television is really telling the truth or simply making the whole thing up. Personally, I don't believe a word he's saying. Sounds like you've already made up your mind though. I think he's just looking for the attention and notoriety.
She WAS a beautiful little girl, and her death was truly tragic.

i can't say it's right, but the only thing that really led to her death was a sick monster taking her life, nothing more. Its like saying a girl dressed in a sexy outfit deserves to be treated with disrespect. Perpetrators should be held accountable. Normal people contain their urges if they even have any. There's thousands of little girls in pageants who grow up without threat, so there is no need to blame the victim, or in this case, their parents.

No doubt in my mind. I firmly disagree with child beauty pageants, even adult ones. The focus is not where it should be for young girls and women. All that aside, she was a dream come true for pedophiles. Her innocence was cloaked behind the images of a tiny woman.

The little girl was in pagentry, alot of glitz pagents from the looks of her. Some pagents are low glitz some are high, Outside of pagentry she was a normal little girl. My daughter used to do pagents she started at 18months old. She retired at 5. She also does modeling. It was just the way some pagents are. We went to a national level pagent and their were 3 year olds with fake teeth and fake spray on tans not to menton fake hair. We got out of pagents because we felt it was to much.Cost etc. I dont want my child looking like that, their are some really good pagents out their that are not glitz. And maybe in a few years she will compeate again in a low glitz pageant, I dont think her being in pagents had anything to do with what happened. For the record i think the guy confessing is full of it.He has a mental illness and a fasanation with the case.I think they need to keep looking for the kiler.Dont knock the pagentry. Its all a show. Her death just made pagents more noticible. and these girls win money lots of it. Also it leads to modeling contracts and movie rolls. My daughter was spoted at a pageant and models quit often.Unless you have been to a pageant then most people wouldnt understand. Also pageants help kids learn alot.
