There are several areas of my car, the hood, the roof, and trunk where the paint is coming off. I cannot afford to get it done professionally right now, but I don't want it to get worse and rust. Can I touch this up myself and How? Thanks.

Galvanized in 92!
This is caused by heat, stress, no protection on the paint. You can fix it but yoiu will have to fine sand WAY past the damaged area, I would then use a Primer on it and wait a month or two to see if the problem is resolved if so new paint job on the whole thing......Maaco aint that bad for a 92 and if you paint original color it will look great

Yes, is possible, to sand and prep the flaking areas smooth as you can, and thus prime the bare metal, and then, at least put some spray paint, as close to matching color as you can. It is a temporary fix, and will last some time. But a pro job is far better. Not that I'm advertising.

This is normal for cars where the original metal was tainted. You can try going to the auto parts store and buy some rust resistant primer. It won't be pretty, but it will be effective

chances are the matal underneath was galvanized, common problem around that year. Take off as much paint as you dare, then use a high grade primer that seals also, then paint away
