The world was CREATED by God only a couple of thousands of years ago. Approximately 6000 years ago. Read your Bibles folks the truth is there. Satan would rather for you to believe the lies taught in our public schools.

Some good videos or DVDs to watch are "Incredible Creatures That Defy Evolution I, II, and III".

a_blue_grey (and a few others) are correct. But it gets more interesting. All the heavier elements on earth were made before 4.5 billions years ago inside giant stars that exploded, forming what would become our solar system and other stars.

Also 3.8 billion years ago, earth did not have "air" as we know it today. It was ammonia and methane gases. But life, in the form of cyanobacteria, over the next billion years, built up oxygen. Up to 540 million years ago, life was single-celled bacteria and algae. Then life on earth "exploded" into many multicellular forms. And life on earth has not been the same. There have been several mass extinctions, one which happened 250 million years ago, almost wiped life from the planet. That was the End-Permian Event, where due to heavy volcanism over millions of years, and the coalescing of the land masses into a super-continent, changed the environment. This event allowed the dinosaurs to rule the earth for the next 185 million years. Another huge extinction occurred 65 million years ago, again caused by heavy vulcanism, but pushed over the edge with an impact with an asteroid 6 miles across, lead to the demise of dinosaurs. This allowed mammals to flourish. Then homonids diverged from apes about 5 million years ago. Now we are again in the midst of another mass extinction, unfortunately this one may be caused by humans. It's all quite interesting.

You could fill a library with the books on geology and biology that track the history of the Earth. So well do these ideas fit that people can tell the age of many rocks and fossils just by looking at them.

Sedimentary layers are an obvious fact. The Grand Canyon in the USA tells an incredible story going back (down!) over a billion years.

B/c those human beings are astounding and persons choose leisure extra desirable than necessities or good well-being or although. Is it stupid, completely! occasion: B/c Peyton Manning throws a soccer and wins some video games for the Colts, we would desire to construct the Colts a clean stadium in Indianapolis while we will not even fill the previous one and while Indiana's practise gadget is in a great rut. What! the money hoosiers spent on the stadium would have made our college gadget extra advantageous and completed extra advantageous issues for Indiana than a stupid stadium for a dumb guy. yet human beings choose leisure, so as that they get it as a replace of extra advantageous colleges or although. It blows.

The earth has been around for about 4.5 billion years, i.e. 4500 million years. The universe has been around 13.7 billion years. Notice that the universe is about three times as old as the earth. The dating of the age of the earth is done through radioactive dating; usually Uranium series, Rubidium-Strontium, or Potassium-Argon dating. Carbon-14 dating is *not* used for dating the earth or anything else over about 50,000 years old. Beware of anyone who mentions carbon dating in the same context as dating dinosaurs or the earth.

Approximately 5 billion years ago from the remnants of another star. It is all happened naturally. No other intervention involved. This very clear and proved

No one "knows" if it was created or coalesced or what, but it's a popularly held belief that earth is 4.9 billion years old.

Large Cop, are you being incredibly sarcastic or are you a freaking nutcase?

And Chase, String Theory explains where the matter came from, and even if it's not true the universe just exploded from a single super-dense point of matter.

You cannot equate what some people believe to be true to a mountain of evidence showing the contrary. The evidence in geology and biology alone is completely overwhelming and convincing for those who are willing to learn.

no one was there, so anyone who says this is fact doesn't know better. the religious comm. believes that the earth is somewhere between six and seven thousand years old; the scientific comm. believes it's millions of years old.

Pure speculation.

But I would agree with anyone who told me the world has been around for more than a billion years.
