All Windows applications touch the registry (the main database containing all the parameters that make Windows and its applications work: in pure English, the SACRED PLACE)

Yahoo Messenger didn't necessarily mess up the registry. It could happen with any other application.

You can go and try download any shareware that fix the registry but, my friend, it's just a patch on the flat tire... sooner or later something else will come up.

So... I strongly recommend to re-install Windows. I know it is a pain the the neck...

If your computer is restarting, your CPU may be overheating. Or, your power supply may be dying.

Before starting Yahoo, open the Task Manager and watch the CPU usage. It will appear at the bottom of the Task Manager Window. Then open the Yahoo Messenger. If it shows you are using 80%-100% processing power, something is hanging your PC and overheating the CPU.

Generally, CPU usage should only be about 20%.

Thats obviously a software problem that is causing your computer to reboot. You need to try some programs to check your computer for registry problems, and or other problems. I think when you enter yahoo chat rooms, that involes using flash, so try uninstalling and reinstalling your flash player.
