We only have 1 week including the site seeing within Sydney. Hunter Valley and Blue Mountain look good. Would you rent a car to do these things, or do a bus tour? Any advice, or other things to do would be great.

We recently went and had the same question in mind. We took an organized tour to the Blue Mountains and were really happy with it. It was an active tour and we got to hike for a few hours. It is truly beautiful there. *haven't been to Hunter Valley*

The places u mentioned are definately worth a visit and quite easy to get to by car : )!

If u r going to the Hunter Valley area might like to check out Terrigal and The Entrance which are some nice beach areas within close proximity to each other : )!

Blue Mountains is a must see too : )! And if u drive a bit further can visit Jenolan Caves as well which are limestone caves and very pretty : )!

If u have some additional time might consider Wollongong and Nelson Bay areas as well : )!

Depends if u r the type of ppl that like to drive....the places mentioned are quite easy to get to but if u would like to relax and take things easy then tour companies do offer tours to these places at quite cheap rates...petrol is not cheap these days so considering a tour might be a good option : )! And u can enjoy yourself and don't have to worry about stressing out and being tired whilst driving : )!

Have fun : )!

Be sure to rent a car and drive on the left side of the road. Visit Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains. Our favorite experience was staying on a farm in Oberon in the Blue Mountains at a place called Tarpeena. It is a self contained cottage. Every morning, we would wake to the baahs of sheep outside and see an abundance of wild lorikeets (parrots). It is magical.

You can go to all of the places that a bus tour would take you but it is much more fun to have the flexibility of renting a car, so that you can avoid the crowds that touring travel naturally creates. Have a great time.

the blue mountains are ok. the train is cheap and there is a good bus service to all the spots. If you want to hire a car get prices before you come otherwise consider "bayswater" car hire. toyota corrolas and cheap. I have used them in western oz.stay overnight in katoomba[blue mountains] and go to jenolan caves from there .
the hunter is wine country. do not drink and drive tho. we have randon breath patrols and penalties are severe.returning stay over at he central coast. nice beaches and eric worrells wildlife centre. lots of nasties there.snakes crocs[eric] and funnel web spiders. good clubs for cheap meals everywhere. visitors welcome.

I'd rent a car and drive to Canberra...it's a good four hours I'd say, but worth it. A nice day trip to the capital.
